Unicef ​​recognizes Murcia as a Child Friendly City (18/10/2016)

More than 20,000 children participate each year in programs aimed at City Hall care less. |

Murcia has been recognized as Friendly City Children by UNICEF Spanish Committee, a distinction that is awarded every two years following an evaluation process to municipalities and institutions, where it is analyzed that the main priorities of municipal policy in relation to childhood and adolescence they comply with certain quality requirements.

The mayor of Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, expressed his satisfaction that "the work carried out in favor of the rights of children and adolescents by the City Council is deserving of this award", which together with Murcia, have received 55 Spanish municipalities -Lorquí, Cieza and San Javier, between them and renovated 25 others.

Friendly Cities for Children (CAI) program launched by UNICEF Spanish Committee, the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and the University Institute of Needs and Rights of Children and Adolescents (IUNDIA), aims to encourage and promote the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child at the local level, promote the participation of children and adolescents in all issues affecting them, and to promote networking between different municipalities that are part of this initiative.

The goal is to design and implement effective public policies to improve the welfare of children, defending their rights, encouraging their participation and making cities more livable, especially for younger environments.

In total there are already 170 stocks that make up the network of Child Friendly Cities.

CAI seal Recognition will be given at a ceremony to be held on November 15 in the city of Santander.

Committed to minors

"We are very pleased by this recognition because it confirms that we are doing a good job for the benefit of children, and encourages us to continue in this direction, from the perspective of maximum protection and promoting awareness of the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted in 1989, "said Conchita Ruiz.

The councilman pointed out that about 20,000 children participate and attend the various driven Social Rights for care and childcare programs, with which "we intend to meet their needs from a holistic view, responding to the diversity of demands that arise ".

In this regard, projects include attention to families in special situations, control of truancy or economic aid to support the school and school support with volunteering.

Similarly, the Council organizes every year the commemorative week of children's rights and promotes various programs for leisure of children through project activities with children and adolescents (PAI), summer activities and significant dates or the draft cyber-classrooms "We were after school" in addition to the work done in whole childhood center and reconciling work and family life.

Socio-educational projects with adolescents and youth and social network of socio-educational action carried out in collaboration with Caixa Proinfancia are also part of care services for children who have the Council's commitment,
