Laura Gil: "A piece of this medal is for each murciano" (26/08/2016)

The City of Murcia honors the first woman Olympic medalist Region, born in the village of Santo Angel.

Mayor Jose Ballesta presided over the ceremony which was also attended by members of the two teams that saw grow the talent of the athlete: Club Basketball Club Santo Angel and Myrtia-Capuchins.

The Plenary Hall today hosted the ceremony tribute of the City of Murcia Laura Gil, the first Olympic medalist Township woman, after winning silver with the Spanish women's basketball team at the Games in Rio 2016, who wanted to dedicate his victory to residents of the municipality where she was born 24 years ago now, in the hamlet of Santo Angel.

"In the national team I am known as 'Murcia' and is a pride for me to have taken the name of Murcia at the Games in Rio.

A piece of this medal is for each of you, "Gil said during his speech, in which he thanked the City Council and the residents' affection you have given me."

The event was attended by Mayor José Ballesta, members of the municipal corporation, the president of the Basketball Federation of the Region, Juan Carlos Hernandez, as well as officials and players from two teams in which Laura Gil began developing his career: Club Basketball Club Santo Angel and Myrtia-Capuchins.

Also present were relatives and neighbors of Vistabella -Barrio who moved to live the Olympic medalist with 14 years who wanted to show their support and admiration for this historic medal sport for both Spanish and Murcia.
