Maialen Chourraut sportsman UCAM has proclaimed Olympic champion in whitewater canoeing in the category of K1.
The Spanish canoeist has completed a clean drop without penalty and very fast which has enabled it to climb to the top of the podium four years after he managed bronze in London in December.
And that rivals did not put easy fight for metals, all about Australian Jessica Fox and Luuka Jones, who also completed a fast and error Maialen decline that left no margin for error.
Coming in third last position and knowing that if you set the fastest time assure at least the bronze, the Spanish risked everything on and lunged for the gold.
The bet went well because it destroyed the time Jones and left his next two opponents with the responsibility to conduct an unblemished descent to the podium.
Neither achieved his goal and Maialen retained the first position to be crowned Olympic champion and thus add to his resume two medals: gold in Rio 16 and bronze in London in December.
