A UMU team was a finalist in the World Debating Championship (10/08/2016)

A team of José Miguel Rojo and Francisco Javier Torres, students of Political Science and Law, respectively, of the University of Murcia (UMU), has been a finalist in the World University Debating Championship, which was held at the University of Córdoba with the participation of 145 groups from 22 countries.

These students exceeded more than initial nine rounds contested and agreed to the final, achieving reach the second round.

In this way, they succeeded, as happened in the World Cup in Mexico (2014) and Colombia (2015), locating the Debate Club of the University of Murcia as a finalist.

A second team of this educational institution, composed of Edgar Arroyo, a student of Economics, and Manuel Garcia of law, also achieved good positions, to become the first in the 57th as best speaker among 288 participants.

A third group, consisting of Francisco Mateo, professor at the UMU, and Julio Herreros, a law student, had the opportunity to debut as a participant in this World Championship.

In turn, the judges sent by the UMU, Manuel Paredes, current president of the Debate Club and winner of the Nations Cup in the World 2015 representing Spain, and Sergio Melero, runner-up World of Colombia, reached the semifinal Judges Cup.

Paredes expressed his satisfaction with the outcome and thanked the cooperation received from the Regional Assembly of Murcia, Vice President of Communication and Culture and the academic director of the Debate Club, law professor Luis Galvez.
