Francisco Alarcón López involved in a project funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the Ministry of Defense to determine the influence of the physical condition of military pilots in making decisions during flight
Universidad Catolica San Antonio de Murcia participates with the University of Granada and the Mind and Brain Center, a project that analyzes the relationship of the physical state of fighter pilots with the decisions that must be made during the flight.
"A better physical condition, pilots make fewer mistakes during the flight simulator, with what your level of expertise maneuvering the apparatus is greater," says Professor of UCAM, Francisco Alarcon.
One of the first results obtained from the analysis of the brain of the pilots, through neuroimaging techniques, relates the size and density of the hippocampus area of ​​the brain associated with spatial memory, with his physical condition.
All this highlights the importance of physical exercise in helicopter pilots Center Airmen Almagro (Ciudad Real), with which testing is being performed.
Is derived from this scientific study the need to avoid mental fatigue shown by the amount of mental load that pilots are exposed, causing many of the mistakes that can make during flight maneuvers.
