The SIME requires the application of extraordinary measures to local police service performing on the street to avoid heatstroke (21/07/2016)

The SIME Union of Public Employees has demanded in writing to the Councillor for Traffic Safety and Civil Protection that the necessary measures are taken to prevent heatstroke in the local police serving in the street.

In recent years the SIME has called for the adoption of these measures, in 2015 a circular Police Headquarters indicated which should be the actions to be carried out, but these have not been implemented in general, do not know if because police headquarters has not transmitted to corporals and sergeants their mandatory or direct commands that violate the guidelines that were supposed to have received from headquarters.

The union demands that the necessary and sufficient measures are taken and that compliance with them is guaranteed and it is not mere information to agents.

The measures proposed are as follows:

The patrols are carried in vehicles equipped with air conditioning when you are available and to avoid the use of motorbikes and foot patrols in the middle of the day, (last hours of service morning and early hours of evening service) .

This measure would allow increased police presence on the street, preventing the police have to take refuge, to avoid the effect of high temperatures, equipped with air conditioning units.

The Police Section Traffic, or others who must remain at a fixed point (traffic regulation, controls, etc ...), not staying more than 15 minutes continuously exposed to room temperature, being relieved at the end of this time another unit.

Breaks that are established from time to time for agents in service can drink water frequently.
