Four students of Murcia receive a scholarship from "la Caixa" to pursue doctorates at universities and research centers of reference in Spain (29/06/2016)

Four Murcia university received scholarships to pursue a doctorate at universities and research centers of reference in the event that Spain was held at CaixaForum Barcelona.

This is the third edition of the International Fellowship Program Doctorate "la Caixa" Severo Ochoa granted in this call 46 scholarships for Spanish and international students, and PhD Program in Spanish Universities, it awarded 25 scholarships for Spanish students.

The goal of both programs is to incorporate young national and international universities and research centers in the country talents.

Scholarships of both programs are four years in length and are endowed with 113,500 euros.

Between the two calls, they have received more than 2,140 requests.

Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation, Carmen Vela;

and the director general of the Banking Foundation "la Caixa", Jaume Giró, delivered in CaixaForum Barcelona the diplomas of his scholarship to the 71 candidates selected in the third edition of the International Fellowship Program Doctorate "la Caixa" Severo Ochoa and Programme Doctorate in Spanish Universities.

The event has brought together the scholarship graduates and their families.

"In the Obra Social" la Caixa "we are convinced that investment in science, innovation, culture and talent is the most profitable to do in a country. Therefore, our strategic plan calls for tripling the budget intended for research and training excellence in the next four years, with the premise that the commitment to science affects the progress of society as a whole, "said the director general of the Banking Fundación" la Caixa ", Jaume Turn.

In this sense, Jaume Giró pointed out that "la Caixa", since 1982, awards scholarships to young people who want to expand their training studying at the best universities in the world and added that, in 2008, the Banking Foundation "la Caixa" opted to expand its scholarship program aimed at creating a call to young people who want the best doctorate in Spanish research centers.

Doctoral Program in Spanish Universities

"La Caixa" has announced 25 grants to expand university studies with a doctorate in a Spanish university.

Three of these fellows are murcianos:

Fernandez Rocio Bastidas, a graduate in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Alicante, pursuing a doctorate in economics from the University of Alicante thanks to a scholarship PhD in Spanish universities "la Caixa".

Pablo Rodriguez Ros degree in Earth Sciences and Space at the University of Murcia, pursuing a doctorate in Marine Science at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia thanks to a grant doctorate in Spanish universities "la Caixa".

Torregrosa Rebeca Carrión, graduate of the University of Murcia, pursuing a doctorate in Molecular Biosciences at the Autonomous University of Madrid with a scholarship PhD in Spanish universities "la Caixa".

The fellows of this call, selected from 672 applications are 12 men and 13 women from 18 different provinces, with an average age of 24.1 years to make their doctorates at 13 universities.

Those who receive more students are the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

The disciplines most requested among fellows are biomedicine, physics, economics and psychology.

The scholarships have a maximum duration of four years and cover social security fees, a monthly allowance and an annual for additional expenses.

The total cost per scholarship is 113,500 euros.

Doctoral Program in Severo Ochoa centers

Picking up the baton of the scholarship program of "la Caixa" to study an international doctorate in biomedicine, the company launched in 2013 a new international program to study for a doctorate in Spanish research centers accredited with the seal of excellence Severo Ochoa.

In the third call for this new program Severo Ochoa, 46 scholarships have been awarded to Spanish and international students.

One of these fellows is murciano:

Pablo Antonio Cano Molina-Niñirola, graduated from the University of Murcia, pursuing a doctorate in Theoretical Physics at the Institute of Theoretical Physics thanks to a grant international doctoral Severo Ochoa of "la Caixa".

In this call they have received 1,472 applications, up from 1,054 the previous edition.

These grants are aimed at students of all nationalities.

Of the selected fellows, 22 are Spanish and the rest foreigners: Italy, Germany, Austria, Cuba, India, New Zealand, Argentina, Egypt, Ireland, Kazahastan and Turkey.

Are 31 men and 15 women, with an average age of 25.4 years.

The scholarships have a maximum duration of four years and cover social security fees, a monthly allowance and another year for extraordinary expenses.

The total cost per scholarship is 113,500 euros.

Grants 34 years of "la Caixa"

Scholarships "la Caixa" have the unanimous recognition of the scientific and academic community.

The rigor in the selection of students and the volume and economic importance of the scholarships have consolidated the program "la Caixa" as one of the most important of those funded by private institutions of the European Union.

Beyond the number of grants and its endowment, the scholarship program of "la Caixa" is characterized by constant attention to their fellows, they become part of a social network, the Alumni Association of "la Caixa", which It identifies them as a group with a high level of training.
