The UMU, a pioneer in the inclusive leisure low vision patients (29/06/2016)

The University of Murcia (UMU), through the University Clinic of Integral Vision (CUVI), is being precursor worldwide a line of research that will improve leisure inclusive, and thus the quality of life of people with disabilities visual.

To this end, the UMU working on the design of trails for low vision patients including special signage needed for mobility and environmental interpretation of these natural spaces.

The objective of this project is that the signage (set of signals that guide and direct people with low vision) is expandable to blindness states, which will enable both safety in mobility as environmental interpretation.

In the words of Joaquín P. Sanchez, head of the Section of Low Vision CUVI, "the choice of hiking regard to other activities is based on is a great candidate for recovery of personal autonomy".

To date, the university has conducted beaconing experiences in two paths, the first of them, in the natural setting of Castle Chuecos (Eagles), purely experimental in order to test its effectiveness with volunteers.

For the second has proved a real itinerary, a unique space in the municipality of Ricote, highly traveled by hikers and nature lovers, to detect and test the largest possible number of everyday situations.
