The City Council begins using an innovative treatment of biological pest control in parks (26/06/2016)

The Department of Administration Modernization, Urban Quality and Participation, directed Jose Guillen works in the use of the most innovative products to maintain green areas of the municipality.

Thus, the City Council has started using an innovative treatment of biological pest control in parks, replacing traditional pesticide treatments with more natural and effective as fungi, such as Phoemyc, or insects such as lacewing.

The first to try it have been more than 700 palm trees that are in the Palm Grove Palm Grove Chico Grande de Santiago and Zaraiche.

This new system aims to be more environmentally friendly and also much more effective.

The treatment is to use a product called Phoemyc composed of a fungus that colonizes and removes harmful organisms for palms as the red palm weevil.

Thus, what we want to achieve is to eliminate the current chemical treatments using sprays.

According to Councilman Modernization, Participation and Urban Quality, Jose Guillen, "this system will allow to extend the formula to many other areas of Murcia and districts while continuing to strive to be a green and friendly town hall with the environment".

But it is not the only advance in which the council works since it is testing a different treatment against aphid about 200 jacarandas distributed between the garden Miguel Angel Blanco, Ronda Sur, and the street Floridablanca.

This new system will place an insect called Crisopa, which feeds on aphids, along with a wasp 3 or 4 millimeters, which will help eliminate the aphid.

Guillen stressed that the council is studying "start new biological control treatments over a hundred ficus distributed by the city."

In this case the aim is to act on the `Psila algodonosa' that secretes a substance that weakens the tree and its ornamental value depreciates.

To address it by a bedbug, which is the most effective natural predator against this scourge will be used.
