The debate on the need for reforms in the Spanish health system is the theme of the conference that the Association of Health Economics (AES) held at the University of Murcia (UMU) until next Friday.
During the sessions, which are being developed at the Faculty of Economics and Business, it will also analyze whether the reforms already undertaken are appropriate indicators to improve the system and ensure fairness and efficiency.
The rector of the University of Murcia, José Orihuela, who led the opening ceremony, said that the meeting affects an aspect that is a challenge, as is the current health system is sustainable over time.
José Orihuela has referred to the strength it has acquired the Health Economics in the academic field of Murcia thanks, among other reasons the research group of the UMU dedicated to this subject.
The president of the Association, Pilar Garcia, meanwhile, has mentioned other issues to be addressed at the tables scheduled presentations and communications, such as funding for hepatitis C drugs or the effects of co-payment.
The conference with the collaboration of Murciano Health Service (SMS), whose managing director, Francisco Agulló, spoke of the relevance of these to health professionals and health economics managers.
Fernando Ignacio Sánchez Martínez, professor of the University of Murcia and in charge of the organizing committee, and José María Labeaga, chairman of the scientific committee, also participated in the opening ceremony as well as the Dean of the Faculty, Pilar Montaner, which, as hostess has welcomed the attendees.
The Association of Health Economics, who is vice president of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Murcia José María Abellán, was established in 1985 and with more than 700 members, is composed mainly by economists and doctors.
