The University of Murcia is open until June 24 the deadline to apply for study grants (07/06/2016)

The University of Murcia (UMU) is open until June 24 the deadline for applications for direct study for students of the educational institution aid.

They are intended to prevent the abandonment of university studies for reasons of socio-economic nature, so that in this way there is no discrimination, for economic reasons, the students their right to education.

They are eligible for these grants, students enrolled in the University of Murcia during the course 2015/2016 in official degree or equivalent level and which meet the economic requirements and property established in the call.

They are complementary and incompatible with those convened by the Ministry of Education.

The total amount of the call is 246,439 euros, almost double the convening of last year, so it is expected to cover nearly 100% of the needs.

The Autonomous Community contributes 110,000 euros and the University of Murcia gives 136,439 euros.

The amount of the UMU comes from funds of the University and other income, including notably the contribution of the Cajamar Foundation (3,000 euros), the First Competition of Bands (8,544 €) and the use of remaining by College application residents Azarbe (10,000 €) and Student Council (2,500 €).

Through the participatory budgeting process, the students of the UMU decided that the 120,000 euros earmarked for direct aid to the study, will be added € 16,439 and € 136,439 reaching finally provided by the University.

Vice Chancellor of Students, Quality and Equality, Prof. Miguel Angel Perez, responsible for such aid, stressed that "the UMU can feel proud to have increased these scholarships, for its strong social character. I hope and wish that we can cover all license plates of those who most need it, because nobody should leave school for economic reasons. "

Vice Chancellor promoted the use of progressive distribution criteria in the past year, also will apply in the current call.

For his part, the President of the Student Council of the University of Murcia, Domingo Antonio Sanchez, stresses that these scholarships respond to needs present in the student body.

He explained that "thanks to this aid, are enough colleagues who will be able to continue their university studies and that's something to write. We believe that initiatives like this, driven within the University, reinforce a university sense of belonging and community governed by the principle of solidarity, evident in the toughest situations. "

"With this action a university sense of solidarity and companionship from the Student Council has reasserted itself with the designation of part of its budget for this initiative is strengthened" explains the president of the highest body of student representation in university.
