Murcia City Council joins the celebration of World Day of Africa (24/05/2016)

More than 300 people participate in the march next Saturday at 13:00 starting in Alfonso X El Sabio (confluence with the Plaza Circular) and head towards the Plaza de Santo Domingo to finish in University Square.

Typical African dishes (Mali, Senegal and Nigeria) will be tasted and act different African folk groups

Murcia City Council joins the celebration of World Day of Africa with the Red Cross, with the aim of integrating people of this nationality in society, thus promoting multiculturalism as a means toward an unquestionable social enrichment eradicating stereotypes and prejudices about African population settled in the region of Murcia.

Tomorrow the World Africa Day, which commemorates the creation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963, dedicated to promoting the unity and solidarity of the African states and serve as the collective voice of an entire continent is held as well as preserve these countries' sovereignty and territorial integrity, to defend its interests internationally, promoting peace, security and stability on the continent, and to promote and protect the human rights of these peoples.

Among the activities planned for Saturday, it will be held a march with the participation of 300 people, at 13:00 hours, in order to sensitize society Murcia on Africa and its current situation.

The march will be composed of members of the Federation of African Associations of Murcia, Red Cross and various entities and murcianas associations, in addition to all those who want to join, starting in Alfonso X and culminate in the University Square (La Merced ) where he will proceed to the tasting of typical African dishes (Mali, Senegal and Nigeria) and act different African folk groups.

The Minister of Youth and Development Cooperation, Rebeca Perez, said it is very important "promoting social integration of these people, and therefore has launched this whole program of intercultural activities".

In addition, the audience can also enjoy an exhibition of Senegalese wrestling and stellar performance of Ballet Jammu, internationally renowned.

The kick-off will take place with the holding of a round table discussion on the 'Reality of African people in the Murcian and Spanish society' on Friday, 27th at 18:00 in the Auditorium of the City Council Murcia has in the Moneo building.
