The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by councilors Modernization, Urban Quality and Participation, Jose Guillen, and Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesus Pacheco, today inaugurated the great mural 'The art of the 20s Murcia Ramón Gaya and his generation ', a work outdoor 3x26 meters located between Santa Isabel and Santa Catalina inn, which makes this central area of ​​the city "in an exceptional anteroom of the Museum Ramon Gaya own," said the mayor.

The mural, prepared by the Department of Administration Modernization, Urban Quality and Participation, and with a montage designed by photographer Joaquin Zamora, aims to beautify, through portraits and works of the Museum and the municipal heritage, this space that records a intense influx of residents and tourists.

This large mural combines the intellectual core of the Murcia of the 20s, a time of full cultural boiling of the city, creating a composicón with pictures, images, and phrases such figures as Jorge Guillen, Juan Guerrero Ruiz and Jose Ballester, and emblematic painters of the time like Ramon Gaya, Luis Garay, Pedro Flores, Joaquin Almela Costa, Victor Nicholas and English.

Collective tribute to the Illustrious Sons

The mayor of Murcia and the director of the Museum Ramon Gaya, Manolo Fernandez Delgado, also made the offering of a laurel wreath to the illustrious sons of Murcia, in the Plaza de Santa Isabel, under the sculpture allegory of Fame, which pays homage.

With this offering "recover the figure of those Murcia who have dedicated their lives to the preservation of our cultural heritage, both inside museums and outside them, preserving our traditions and artistic legacy that we enjoy today," said Ballesta.

Tomorrow, self - portraits in the mirror

Among the programming that hosts the Ramón Gaya, during "Night and Museum Day ', highlights the activity' Autorretratándose 'in which ten artists painted themselves sitting across ten mirrors.

"They will live in four sessions in which the public can monitor the progress of work," said José Ballesta.

The activity will take place in the morning and last Museum, from 11.00 to 13.00 and from 17.30 to 19.30.

On Saturday May 21 the day will run from 21:00 until two in the morning and portraits will be exhibited at the Plaza de Santa Catalina.

The artists participating in 'Autorretartándose are Severo Almansa, Carmen Cantabella, Alejandro Franco, Nono García, Ana Martinez, Vicente Martínez Gadea, Nicholas of Maya, Hurtado Mena, Manuel Paez and Araceli Reverte.
