The campaign to donate used eyeglasses will improve the vision of people in Senegal, Morocco and Madagascar (10/05/2016)

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today participated in the campaign of the Blue NGOs in Action 'Give your old glasses new life', through the donation of lenses used in the collection point of clinical Vista Ircovisión located in Centrofama.

They also collaborated with this initiative the Councillor for Youth and Development Cooperation, Rebeca Perez, the Councillor for Traffic Safety and Civil Protection, Lola Sanchez, and the Councillor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello.

"Overall, we expect to collect about 5,000 glasses in Murcia, which will be donated to people of Senegal, Morocco and Madagascar, three points where Blue in Action, the local police in Murcia, is making valuable intervention projects in Ophthalmology and Optics" José Ballesta said.

Specifically, for the year 2016, Blue in Action will carry out a campaign of ophthalmology and optics in the country of Senegal, a campaign of optics in southern Morocco (Sahara) and is working on a construction project of a hospital ophthalmology and optics in the country of Madagascar for next year.

Mobile Hospital 'Ciudad de Murcia'

This campaign is an initiative of the Blue NGOs in Action, in collaboration with the city of Murcia, and which also involved the clinical Vista Ircovisión and Fees Foundation and various opticians and pharmacy in Murcia.

1,150 cataract surgeries

As part of ophthalmological and optical medical cooperation, Blue in Action is working since 2007 in the countries of Togo, India and South Morocco, I having performed 1,150 cataract surgeries, 150 surgeries pterygium, made the donation of 4,000 glasses 1,500 graduates and sunglasses (use them patients after cataract surgery), 5,980 graduations vision, 9,850 treatments of eye diseases and 18,220 consultations.

Blue in Action is a development NGO, founded in Murcia in 2000, and declared of public utility by the Ministry of Interior.

In these 16 years of work has made a total of 52 cooperation projects in the field of health, dducación, infrastructure construction, etc., in various countries of the African continent and Latin America as well as projects to support collective needy Murcia and numerous awareness campaigns and education for development in the municipality of Murcia.
