The Infrastructure Committee of the Municipal Observatory of the Bicycle continues to work on the project to create 20 kilometers of bike lanes (09/05/2016)

The Infrastructure Committee of the Municipal Observatory of the Bicycle continues to work on the study of the draft plan of building 20 kilometers of segregated bike lanes in the city.

The aim of the Department of Traffic and Public Safety with this committee aims to receive all contributions and suggestions for the design of the strategy for promoting cycling, together, achieve greater and better sustainable mobility.

The Infrastructure Committee of the Municipal Observatory of the Bicycle is made up of representatives of local associations Murcia cycling Bike, Bike and BiciHuerta UMU, Universities, Local Police and DGT and technicians of the Municipal Office of the Bicycle.

At the last meeting has given approval to more than 20 proposed sections presented by the City except those run by Princess Street, Paseo Garay, Lieutenant Flomesta, Plano San Francisco, Street Huerto Pomares, Radial (The Dolores / Miguel Indurain) and Ronda Levante, where improvements have been proposed.

They all have made an analysis of the characteristics of the track, with regard to the use, conditions and interference with drivers and pedestrians.

Princess Street in a unidirectional segregated bike path is proposed, respecting the number of vials, but with reduced width thereof, establishing a continuation of the proposal submitted by the City to Avenue Floridablanca.

Paseo Garay in the proposed bidirectional continuity segregated bike lane is agreed as valid by removing a vial, as an alternative to initial presented.

You will be continued two-way bike lane Paseo Lieutenant segregated Flomesta, establishing a continuation of the proposal submitted by the City to the adjacent sections.

San Francisco Plane proposal bidirectional continuity segregated bike lane proposed as an alternative to initial remembers as valid.

Street Huerto Pomares in performing a ciclocalle to the initial proposal is proposed as an alternative while in Ronda Levante is agreed to create a one-way bike lane on both sides.

Meanwhile, the infrastructure committee held further consultations to determine the best route and viability of Radial Los Dolores / Miguel Indurain.

Councillor for Traffic and Public Safety, Lola Sanchez, explained that "as we committed, the Observatory of the Bicycle continues its efforts to convert Murcia in a city where coexist bicycles, pedestrians and motor vehicles. The results of these meetings will be evident in the coming months with the construction of the first segregated bike lanes of traffic. "
