Murcia will join the Network of Cities and Friendly Communities with the Elderly (05/05/2016)

The councilman of Social Rights in Cadiz attends a meeting of municipalities that are committed to respond adequately to the challenge of facing a future with more elderly form.

The City of Murcia, through the Department of Social Rights, is present in the day 'How to be a friendly city with older people', held today in San Fernando (Cádiz), organized by the Imserso to reunite cities wishing to join the Network of cities and Friendly Communities with the Elderly, among which is Murcia.

This alliance of municipalities is an opportunity to meet and prepare cities to the challenge of a future with more older people as a result of demographic aging.

In the case of Murcia, the population census recorded more than 65,000 people over 65 years, representing a percentage of almost 15% of the population.

The Plenum of the Corporation approved last February unanimously a motion that the accession of Murcia this network and the Department of Social Rights is working on this project promoted by the World Health Organization, in order to create environments and services that promote and facilitate an active and healthy aging.

"It is essential to promote the participation of older people, taking into account their needs, perceptions and opinions and prepare the city for a future with citizens age" commented Councilwoman Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz Caballero.

Imserso, under the collaboration agreement with WHO, is the agency responsible for promoting and supporting this project, which in addition to providing information and advice, conducts training activities to contribute to proper implementation in Spain.

Active and healthy life for the elderly in the municipality
