Now Murcia calls for more trees and shaded areas in the courtyards of public schools (27/04/2016)

NOW MURCIA proposes to increase the wooded and shaded areas in the courtyards of public schools in the municipality, since more than half of the schools in Murcia need more areas sheltered from the sun to ensure that students can stay in decent conditions .

This need is especially urgent to reach high temperatures in spring and summer and due to the effect of solar radiation during recess and out of the school day.

Therefore, the municipal formation take tomorrow to Parliament a motion to urge the Department of Education which, together with the Council, to take urgent measures to increase the wooded and shaded areas (by tarps and awnings subsidiary basis) in the patios and entrances of all those public colleges needed.

Councillor and spokesman Now Murcia, Alicia Morales, explains that "the situation is particularly serious in some schools in the municipality, where there are no pergolas or trees in their yards, nor in their access and nearby. Similarly, some classrooms are affected, because of their orientation, solar radiation ".

The mayor said that in some centers the city has built pergolas, but they are "small and inadequate, keeping a problem that has existed for too many years ago, and now reaching a course more to the hot season without taking the necessary measures" .

According to Morales, this need for shady areas occurs while we are in the town "a great arboreal wealth, with different indigenous and traditional woodland, which would facilitate sustainable, scenically integrated and with a significantly lower cost solution than pergolas ".

On the other hand, he explains that "deciduous species such as mulberry trees and poplars, may be suitable for matching the periods in which retain their leaves with the shadow in these centers is necessary".

The motion now Murcia also provides that the Consistory sent to the Ministry of Education a report on the current status of this problem, the emergency measures that can be carried out and the final solutions to medium and long term, including planting of deciduous native trees.

The text will be presented tomorrow includes finally urge the Department of Education to include in the works of maintenance of schools every summer performing actions leading to increased shady areas with native trees.
