The opposition decries the "electoral use" of institutional networks of the City of Murcia (25/04/2016)

Municipal opposition groups in the city of Murcia have reported through a motion on "electioneering and partisan use" of institutional profiles on social networks services Culture, Tourism, Social Services, Youth and Sports, by Government team.

At a news conference, PSOE councilors, citizens and change Murcia, Begoña García Retegui, Carlos Peñafiel and Nacho Tornel, respectively, explained that until recently the profiles of these services were managed and administered by civil servants.

However, the municipal government, with the aim of "ideological control" the content disseminated through social networks and obeying a "political strategy" decided to refer the responsibility for that task to a hired press office member.

As they explained councilors, one of the intentions of the PP with this action is to manage these communication channels to the loss of voting in the youth group, potential users of the Internet and digital forms of communication, which has experienced in recent months .

The result, continue the mayors of the PSOE, Citizens and change, it is that the content offered on institutional profiles "are detracting" from being a source of communication with information from academic, formative and youth counseling, a space which preponderates leisure, holidays and leisure time.

They added that the variation content has been noticeable especially in the service InformaJoven where information on scholarships, infrastructure for youth or training, has gone on to become a "showcase" of the mayor and certain celebrations such as Easter, which already have other channels to promote themselves.

The opposition groups have agreed that the attitude of the government team to make such use of institutional social networks goes against the provisions of the European Union regarding the obligations of youth information services, both through the European Youth Information Charter as the Principles for online Youth Information.

In fact, local groups raised in the motion compliance with separate documents, as well as the immediate return of the management and administration of these institutional profiles and training, if necessary, personnel officer for using them.
