The PSOE will propose to Parliament that the transfer of municipal housing as floor ward for women victims of domestic violence (24/04/2016)

Councilwoman Municipal Socialist Group, Susana Hernandez, defend in the full City Council of Murcia next Thursday a motion requesting that the Municipal Housing Service give in the service of Social Welfare housing as floor ward to care for women are victims of male violence.

This property must be made available to the Municipal Assistance Team Violence against Women (EMAVI).

In the motion, the socialist mayor recalled that the Organic Law 1/2004 of 28 December on Integral Protection Measures I Gender Violence, states that "violence is not a problem affecting the private sector. on the contrary, it manifests itself as the most brutal symbol of inequality in our society. it is a violence that is directed against women by virtue of being, being considered, by their aggressors, devoid of the minimum rights of same freedom, respect and decision making ".

According to Susana Hernandez, the launch of the group home will facilitate the return to normality of those women who have gone through the shelters and have already been able to face a new situation.

"From the Socialist Group we will work so that victims can be incorporated with dignity to their lives," he said.

"Therefore it is necessary that the resources of the City Council made available to these women."

According to the latest data provided the City Council in November last year, the EMAVI had recorded 274 cases in the months of 2015 (180 Spanish and 94 foreign), 8 more than in the same period last year, and attended a total of 1,802 interventions (visits, phone calls, etc.).

As for the ages of the women requiring the participation of the team, most were located in the age groups between 30 and 40 years (35.4%) between 40 and 50 years (26.6%).

Of these cases, 176 (64%) consisted complaint of domestic violence and in most cases (89%) without complaint for breach of the restraining order or for breach of alimony (95%).

274 affected mothers totaled 404 children.

As for the perpetrators in 53 percent of cases is the former partner, in 40 percent partner, and 79 percent of the situations do not live with them.

One of the remedies provided by the City for cases that require it are two shelters in which this year have resided in 5 women and 9 children-which are currently used by 2 women and 5 children.
