The Civil Guard requested the protection of the Royal Salinas de Sangonera la Seca Murcia (06/04/2016)

The Civil Guard in the region of Murcia, after the corresponding study, has requested the initiation of several administrative records to ensure cataloging, protection and conservation of all movable and immovable property that make up the Royal Saltworks of Murcia hamlet of Sangonera la Seca as well as other sites and buildings in Cañada Hermosa Alcantarilla and Murcia.

These actions are framed in the 'Plan for the defense of Spanish Historical Heritage', launched by the Directorate General of the Civil Guard in order to increase the security of Spanish Historical Heritage and reduce criminal activity in this sector.

In recent days, the Civil Guard has submitted to the Directorate General of Cultural Assets of Heritage Service of the CARM, a request that the procedures for cataloging as well of cultural interest begin, with the category of place of ethnographic interest part of the Finca Las Salinas, located in the hamlet of Murcia Sangonera la Seca.

Salinas del Rey or Royal Salinas de Sangonera la Seca

Within the scope of this agricultural estate, privately owned, they are located known as Royal Saltworks.

It is a center salinero interior, whose first historical data date from the thirteenth century.

In the year 1266 due to the high economic performance that provided a much needed element and defendant at that time as the salt, the Castilian King Alfonso X the Wise took ownership of these salt and the other located on the lands of the Kingdom of Murcia.

Hence the name of the King or Royal Salinas Salinas.
