The XXIII edition of the Flamenco Summit of Murcia blends tradition and freshness in the Romea and Circus theaters (05/04/2016)

A Flamenco Summit with a sign of quality and at the same time, young and innovative.

Tradition and freshness are the two pillars on which this appointment is based with flamenco in the capital of the region, to be held during the weekend of 15 and 16 and from 22 to 23 April in the Romea Theatre and Circus Theatre.

The presentation of the XXIII edition of the festival, which took place this morning in the Hall of Mirrors at the Romea, has attended the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, artists Marina Heredia, Alba Heredia and Curro Piñana;

the author of the poster, Inma Escudero;

Pageant director flamenco fashion, the designer Rosa Ruiz;

and the director of the Summit, Antonio Parra.

The Romea Theatre is the setting for the shows scheduled for the first weekend.

Thus, the first day, Friday April 15, will feature two singers who have been the revelation of recent years and are reaching the respect and admiration which they operate: Antonio Reyes and Jesus Mendez;

day complete with the very young dancer from Granada Alba Heredia, artist revelation of 2015 after winning the 'Desplante' award in La Union and after the premiere in his native Granada a great show with your company.

On the second day, Saturday April 16, will be the cartagenero Curro Piñana award 'Patriarch Flamenco' 2016, in which he paid tribute to Santa Teresa in its V Centenario, flamenco adapting some of his poems.

That second evening is completed with the participation of Rancapino Chico, Trio Shadows, Angela Bossa, Monica Iglesias and Pablo Egea (the last two components of the National Ballet of Spain).

The guitar accompaniment will be provided by Antonio Piñana, Pepe Piñana and Fran Tornero, and the piano, Angel Valderrama.

The third gala on April 22 -and in the circus and theater, is reserved for a couple full of flavor and genius: the pianist Dorantes and cantaora Marina Heredia, who have an exquisite show: 'Essences' concert triumphed Flamenco at the festival on Fair and walking with success of public and critics worldwide.

This year's edition will close on April 23 on the same stage with the concert of the Catalan group 'Crumbs'.

As every year, the Flamenco Summit XXIII Murcia is surrounded by a series of parallel cultural activities.

From the sample of Flemish documentary filmmaker Onesimo Hernandez in the museum of the University of Murcia, which will include conferences and round tables, a parade of flamenco costumes designer Rosa Ruiz, who will have the participation of the dancer Cynthia Cano, who he will wear one of the costumes from the collection.

Background

The Flamenco Summit of Murcia started rolling in 1994. From the beginning, the success was extraordinary.

For years he has also pioneering been in the programming of good flamenco in the region, a regional and national reference, reaching the yearbook the newspaper El País, in several editions, to consider it one of the best flamenco events in Spain, together with the Bienal de Sevilla, Jerez Festival or the Festival del Cante de las Minas and others, mainly Andalusians.

For the Summit, with the cooperation of the City of Murcia, through the Department of Employment, Tourism and Culture, they have been masters like Jose Merce and Miguel Poveda, the National Ballet of Spain, Vicente Amigo, La Yerbabuena, Antonio Canales , the prestigious family Piñana, etc.

The project, from its origins, arises in two dimensions: on one side the central programming of the great theaters of Murcia, (Romea Theatre and Circus Theatre) with consecrated figures and new flamenco;

on the other hand, a cultural package, which throughout its history has offered lectures, workshops, exhibitions and book publishing, in addition to annually grant the 'Patriarch Flamenco' award in collaboration with the Flemish Association of the University of Murcia and the Hall of Flamenco of this institution.

One of the principal events of this 23 Flamenco Summit is the exhibition "La mirada del duende ', filmmaker and professor Onesimo Hernandez where they can be seen, among other content, most of his documentaries on flamenco, some of them already exhibited in important areas throughout Spain.

Thus, for example, dedicated to Morente and Miguel Poveda, or Merce, it will be a première, although in the 2015 Summit and an advance was exhibited at the UMU.

The exhibition is realized with sponsorship of the University of Murcia and can be seen in the museum of this educational institution in the former artillery barracks of Murcia.
