Social Rights propose to the full City Council a street remember the International Roma Day (05/04/2016)

The day is celebrated on April 8 recalling the gypsy congress held in London on the same day of 1971, in which the flag and the anthem was instituted.

This year, to complete the International Day events, it will celebrate the Festival Solidario 'Talí Murcia Festival'

The councilman of Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz Caballero, has announced that it will propose to the full City Council a street remember the International Roma Day.

This was said by the president of the FSG, Jesus Salmeron, while presenting the activities organized by the FSG to celebrate International Roma Day, which will take place in the New Bridge and Plaza of the Red Cross .

The aim of the event is, according to Ruiz Caballero, "share the current situation of this community, spread their main identity as a people and remember the victims of the Nazi holocaust."

The activities planned to explain the meaning of this day are, among others, workshops, dissemination, information and awareness;

reading the manifesto of April 8;

interpretation of the hymn 'Gelem-Gelem';

and wreath the River Segura.

The celebration of International Roma Day has indicated the holder of Social Rights, "it has led in recent years an important occasion for the recognition of the Roma / Gypsies, its history, its language and culture, and now this date is commemorated in countries on five continents, as a wakeup call to discrimination that often still suffers this community. "

This year, to complete the International Day events, it will celebrate the Solidarity Festival 'Talí Murcia Festival', which aims to maximize awareness of the plight of exclusion of the Roma community, knowledge of the needs and progress of the Roma community and the commitment of society, institutions, organizations and entities with the cause of Gypsies and Roma.

The Festival will take place at 18:30 hours, and the ticket price will be 5 euros and 7 euros advance at the box office, which will go for the support of counseling and educational programs accompanying the FSG develops throughout Spain .

In addition, they act some of the best groups in the area, and there will be styles to suit all tastes, flamenco, fusion, songwriting, rock, indie and hip hop.

Ruiz Caballero said that "we must achieve a just society in which the Roma enjoy equal conditions with the whole population, to access social welfare and allow them to freely and fully exercise their citizenship."

Murcia City Council allocated a grant of 73,000 euros annually to the FSG, specifically to combat truancy and employment promotion.
