Combat climate change and achieve improved urban air quality is a goal that necessarily must be achieved in cities.
This reality has shown again in a few days that have just taken place in Valencia, which was attended by technicians from the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change Murcia that, following the guidelines of Town Planning, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, works in the organization of an upcoming national meeting on the development of more sustainable cities.
Among the issues discussed in the conference on "Improving Air Quality in Cities", organized by the FEMP and the Spanish Gas Association (SEDIGAS) - the need for municipalities have clear responsibilities was analyzed, regardless of autonomic regulation, and the possibility of designing local taxation that rewards good environmental practices and behaviors that serious contamination.
Throughout the day the measures that can be done to achieve more efficient cities, either giving priority to the use of renewable energy or gas in transport were also analyzed.
In this regard, the commitment of the City of Murcia to guide the city towards a model of sustainable development including the reduction of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, for which it has a large fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles for municipal use in different municipal services, namely, maintenance of parks and gardens, street cleaning and waste collection, Aguas de Murcia or the entire fleet of urban public transport buses, and other vehicles for general services.
Currently, the traditional transport accounts for 28% of global energy consumption and 34% of CO2 emissions, hence the importance of encouraging global solutions that reduce energy consumption.
