The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, signed today as 'notario extraordinary' historic brotherhood between the Royal Brotherhood of the Knights of the Virgin of Fuensanta and the Brotherhood of Devotees of Our Lady of La Arrixaca, on the occasion of the celebration of 750th anniversary restoration of Christian worship in Murcia and the 380 anniversary of the constitution of the Brotherhood of La Arrixaca.

During the ceremony, which was loaded with symbolism, the mayor said that "today takes place a historical event, such as the signing of the act of twinning between devotees of the two protective Mothers of Murcia, brotherhoods of glory linked to the mass of the blood of Murcia, and have the sole purpose of rooting and devotion to our Mother, under the invocations of La Arrixaca and La Fuensanta ".

Thus, in the Hall of City Hall, the president of the Brotherhood of La Fuensanta, Manuel Ramón García-Garre, and the older brother of the Brotherhood of La Arrixaca, Jose Antonio Melgares signed the certificate declaring "the perpetuity of this twinning for the greater glory of God our Lord and his Blessed Mother, the Virgin Mary ", an agreement was also endorsed by 14 different witnesses, including the Minister of Culture and the regional government spokesman, Noelia Arroyo was.

The story of two cults

The Royal Brotherhood of Knights Virgen de la Fuensanta was born in 1808 in the Glorieta of Spain, at which point his knights promised the defense of Murcia, before the French occupation, under the protection of the Morenica.

Its mission is to safeguard and ensure devotion to the Virgin of Fuensanta and today has 700 knights.

Meanwhile, the Brotherhood of the Virgen de La Arrixaca meets 380 years of its foundation, an institution that was refounded by Javier Fuentes and Ponte in 1875, who recovered the carving in 1875 and cleared his ostracism.

Currently, the 'arrixacos', as his knights and popularly known damas- have 227 brothers who work to keep the cult inherited under the patronage of La Arrixaca.
