The overall improvement of Los Rosales is 70% and will benefit 6,000 residents (28/03/2016)

This is an ambitious performance in which the City Council, the Ministry of Development and Community work hand in hand and that includes improving housing 329 as well as the common areas, three places and pedestrian areas.

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Development, Mario Garcés, and the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructures, Francisco Bernabé, today visited the rehabilitation works in the neighborhood of Los Rosales, El Palmar, a performance of which 6,000 neighborhood residents will benefit the environment, with the improvement in both housing blocks and common areas, plazas and pedestrian areas.

The works, which began running in August, is making good progress.

In fact, to date they have been executed 70% of the works and is scheduled to conclude next May.

The agreement reached to 379 homes distributed in 14 blocks, built in the late 60s and early 70s, which add another 68 that were already under rehabilitation by the City.

The project budget is 1.3 million euros, financed by the Consistory Murcia (56.2%), the Ministry of Public Works (35%) and the Autonomous Community (8.8%).

The neighbors, who were able to stay in their homes during the work and not have to deal with any expenses arising from actions to improve and, in addition, 30% of those recruited for the execution of the works are neighbors own neighborhood who were unemployed.

In this sense, José Ballesta said that "it is an ambitious project in which the three administrations work hand in hand and has an urban component, but above all, social.

The current project, which is being developed in the southern half of the neighborhood, is part of the program promoting regeneration and urban renewal promoted by the Ministry of Public Works.

The next step will be the implementation of the second phase of the project, which will comprise the remaining blocks of flats located in the northern half.

The Housing Service of the City of Murcia is working to close a new agreement with the Ministry, with the collaboration of the CARM.

The renovation of this polygon, which combines terraced houses of one and two levels with collective blocks of up to four floors, including the improvement of the blocks, with the renewal of sanitation, replacing the covers, the adequacy of the facades and common spaces between blocks, repair of stairs, balconies and driveways of homes.

It is also being carried out the renovation of the common areas, with the conditioning of the squares and community recreation areas, namely, the streets of the southern part of the Olivar, cherry and pear trees which is practically acabada- along with the pedestrian promenade of Los Cactus through the area.

The works, which also aims to revitalize the commercial fabric, provide for the renewal of the paving, new furniture and areas with trees, redesigning spaces, installation of a new lighting greater energy efficiency and the removal of architectural barriers.

During the course of the work an Information Office in the neighborhood it is enabled so that residents know firsthand the features and content of the plan, being permanently informed.

It has also taught workshops neighbors 'Healthy Living' -to promote saludables- habits, 'basic DIY' -maintain of viviendas- and 'community space and neighborhood' -to promote coexistence and share-.
