The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today presented the prize 'Equality in Sport' to school downtown San José de Espinardo, an award with which the city of Murcia wants to recognize the work of teachers of this center and the involvement active of its students, in favor of breaking gender stereotypes in sports.
A total of 250 primary and secondary students (125 girls and 125 boys) from the center 687 students have participated in the School Sports Program of the City during the past year from 2014 to 2015.
Promoting education equality and promoting the value of competition between female students have earned this center prize of sports equipment worth € 1000 euros and backpacks with the slogan 'Murcia Equality'.
"We found a gap in the sport among children, especially from age 12, where this imbalance increases.
Therefore, the City Council we are committed to promote the principle of equal opportunities between our school, as part of consolidation of the principles of equality and non-discrimination in the future, "said José Ballesta.
The municipal distinction also recognizes the work and efforts of teachers in the public school, promoting the values ​​of competitive sport, education in equality and break gender stereotypes rooted in the field of sport.
