Councilman Antonio Navarro Corchón, who heads the Department of Planning, Environment and Huerta Murcia City Council, inaugurated this morning the Free Workshop Calculation of Carbon Footprint, where 10 Murcian companies calculate their carbon footprint, with the aim of reducing C02 emissions.

This action is framed in a series of meetings to be conducted under the theme: "Act against Climate Change" and that part of the road map marked by the municipality for Adaptation to Climate Change.

The high demand and the interest shown by many companies and freelancers to participate in this workshop confirm the success of this training proposal, organized through ALEM Service, the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change and has enjoyed the cooperation of the CROEM for the dissemination of this initiative.

On the first day of the workshop have been treated the theoretical concepts of carbon footprint, raising several dynamics that would allow to define the scope and focus of the same from each of the participating organizations: Society of Waste, Distilleries Muñoz Gálvez, Estrella de Levante, Serrano Alvarez Selection ETT, the CROEM, Spain KIO Networks, Hospital Mesa del Castillo, Association of chemical companies, Auxiliary cannery and Emmaus.

Thus, participating companies will "take homework home," and on March 10, in the practical session of the workshop, calculate your carbon footprint using the tool published by the MAGRAMA, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and will enroll in the new existing National Registry.

The goal, which already marked Navarro Corchón is that "all companies participating in the workshop out with calculated carbon footprint".

The determination of the carbon footprint of an organization is a key aspect in the fight against climate change.

This global phenomenon, whose effects are already experiencing much of our planet, where you fight better is locally, as already shown by other European initiatives to reduce CO2 emissions as the Covenant of Mayors.

By promoting municipal policies integrators, through the work of information and awareness to the public, increasing activities in our society should seek ways and alternatives that will lead to consumption of increasingly efficient, rational and sustainable resources .

Murcia City Council already exploring the possibility of a second information day to respond to the many companies that have expressed interest in the carbon footprint, and lack of training and means to implement it.
