Huerta live calls the residents of Murcia and districts to report on the situation of the Highway Reguerón (02/03/2016)

This infrastructure, in addition to the environmental and landscape impact is causing hundreds of huertanas families have to leave their land and homes.

Despite being the garden of Murcia one of the major protagonists of the political debate in recent months, this cultural landscape is beset by plotting roads further fragment this rich territory seriously threatened in the last decade by the uncontrolled urbanization and construction of numerous infrastructures.

Just take a walk through the garden of Beniaján and other neighboring districts to appreciate a new wound with thousands of uprooted trees and hectares of fertile soil removed.

This is the section of the highway This Reguerón, a very costly infrastructure (240 million euros for a stretch of 16.5 km) Huerta Live the association believes unnecessary to mainly serve to connect the highway with San Javier Zeneta of Cartagena, but that change will cause serious problems by fragmenting the plain of Murcia along its entire length, leaving virtually isolated areas, making it difficult to farm orchard and increasing the risk of flooding when a person affected by the opening of several wadis area.

In the future Reguerón Highway runs towards Catral (Alicante) by a toll motorway (AP-37) that will be underused to run parallel to the A-7, which is free.

Populations affected by the AP-37 in this province also consider this unnecessary and damaging infrastructure for the interests of the Vega Baja for its environmental incompatibility.

Among other damage cited as negative elements, increased flood risk, the condition of traditional agricultural irrigation systems and communications, the barrier effect for the affected municipalities, or deterioration of valuable inner landscape of the region.

Live from Huerta think that this road is a communication barrier in the districts of the South Coast with the city center, and a brutal blow to the conservation of the garden of Murcia as a cultural and agricultural landscape of interest.

To all this must be added the damage they are suffering hundreds of huertanas families must march necessarily, being helpless and lost to a giant that is gobbling up everything for a very poor compensation, losing their homes, land, and some , to work.

Huerta Live indicate that many sacrifices in order to build a road of little interest, whose function overlaps with the South Coast, and for which there are other alternatives, but the most serious are the neighbors who are forced to leave overwhelmed by a process which in the opinion of the association lacks transparency and consistency, with citations individually by Public Works and continuous changes in the layout and elements related to infrastructure.

In this situation, Huerta Live think you need to give voice to the neighbors and for that we have organized meetings in different districts.

This time it convenes the population of Murcia and districts on Thursday, March 3 at 19 am in the Hall of Moneo building located on the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga.
