College-educated entrepreneurs are more innovative, according to a book (30/06/2010)

The degree of innovation of entrepreneurs is higher in Murcia with university studies, as one of the conclusions of the book "The challenge of entrepreneurship: key", which was presented today at the headquarters of the Rector of the University of Murcia.

The work, a work of an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the University of Murcia coordinated by Professors Antonio Aragon and Juan Samuel Baixauli, collects the perceptions of 340 companies, small and with no more than ten years, in the region.

The results of this sample shows the importance of family and social role in entrepreneurial activity, as are family and friends of entrepreneurs the most influence when they perform or not an innovative idea.

As a general rule, employers surveyed say they have no great difficulty with the legal and bureaucratic procedures, if any, are more problems at the local level, with local councils.

The entrepreneurs in the sample demand greater social value of their work, and who understand that social and cultural norms of the Region of Murcia is not sufficiently recognized or stimulate creativity and innovation.

Within this area local businesses include infrastructure and communications as the region's strengths, while trouble finding skilled workers and appear weak funding environment.

In this regard, 53% of funds used in the new business initiatives are the entrepreneur's personal contribution.

The entrepreneur Murcia is reflected in the book as an enthusiastic, tenacious and self-disciplined, with great ability to take risks and that his work brings him great satisfaction.

Antonio Aragon, who is the director of Bancaja Young Entrepreneurs of the University of Murcia, said the work was intended as a guide that can be "useful for people who want to start a business, but also for those already established, will have an opportunity to review his career and appreciate what they did right and what they will do better in the future. "

The rector of Students and Employment, Maribel Sanchez-Mora, who chaired the event in Convalescence, said the book promotes one of the main missions of the university, such as research and knowledge transfer to society.

The presentation was also attended by the director of the Institute of Regional Development (INFO), Juan José Beltrán, and the director of the Area in Murcia of Bancaja, Antonio Rubio, sponsoring entities of a volume that has been published by Civitas Thomson Reuter.
