Murcia City Council will be responsible for advising the city of Salé, Morocco and Polotsk, Belarus, on energy plans.
This project, called SURE (Sustainable Urban Energy in the ENPI Region) is part of the CITY (Urban Development Cooperation and Dialogue), Office of European Commission cooperation.
The project will be presented this week in Brussels at an event that will be the starting point of the CITY program of the European Union, whose main objective is to promote dialogue and cooperation in the development of urban areas with neighboring countries to the European Union in different fields such as energy, basic services, reducing inequalities, sustainable urban development and cultural heritage.
Murcia coordinate the drafting of the energy plans of the Belarusian city of Polotsk and the Moroccan city of Salé.
Gency will be the Local Energy and Climate Change Murcia which, thanks to the experience in drafting the Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy Town Hall, move this project to the Moroccan city and Belarus.
The project involves, in addition to Murcia, the city of Friedrichshafen, on Lake Constance (Germany), Polotsk (Belarus) Salé (Morocco).
Also part of the project, the House of Belarus in Germany and the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe.
The SURE project, Murcia will provide technical advice to the cities of Polotsk and Sale in conducting an energy assessment, the Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy and work with them in the implementation of a pilot.
There will also be an interaction and exchange of experiences between Murcia and Friedrichshafen.
In addition Murcia advise members on their experience in signing the Covenant of Mayors endorsed the City Council in early 2009, and help them get started with writing an action plan to achieve the objectives proposed in the Pact Mayors.
The project aims at exchanging experiences on energy planning, promotion of the Covenant of Mayors and technical advice for implementation, in order to achieve the objectives described herein (the known target 20-20-20 ), ie reduction of CO2 emissions by 20%, increased energy efficiency by 20% and achieve 20% renewables, all within the horizon of 2020.
Among the actions to be carried out under this project highlights the completion of a pilot plant in the cities of Rabat and Polotsk and holding a week of sharing municipal technicians, in which technicians can come Morocco to know how to perform energy planning in the various departments of the City of Murcia.
The project duration has been established in 30 months.
