The Catholic University hosts 23 and 24 June 2010 Summer School on Cardiovascular Risk (23/06/2010)

"Having the metabolic syndrome carries a high cardiovascular risk," said today in the UCAM the director of the Department of Cardiovascular Risk and Head of Master in RCV University, José Abellán German, at the opening of the Summer School 2010 at Cardiovascular Risk. Abellán explained that this new learning activity, developed in collaboration with the Society of Murcia and Cardiovascular Risk Hypertension, analyzed through workshops and conferences by experts on RCV, aspects of this problem as the syndrome metabolic or the diagnosis and management of hypertension. Dr. José Abellán has opened the activity with the conference "The magnitude of the problem of RCV in Spain and control rates."

Abellán explained the relationship arising from the confluence of risk factors such as hypertension, abnormal lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, which combined with abdominal obesity, cause the so-called metabolic syndrome.

The expert has warned of the dangers of this disease which increased by 20% the risk of cardiovascular complications such as strokes or renal disease within an average of 5 to 10 years.

The opening day also included workshops by various experts kidney damage, diabetes, obesity, nutrition and exercise in patients at risk. The training session on Thursday June 24 will include two workshops conducted by experts of the Chair of the RCV UCAM focusing on the exposure of problems and solutions in the diagnosis, control and monitoring of Cardiovascular Risk and Hypertension.

There will then be closing the conference entitled "Protective Factors in CVR, genetics, environment or something else, by Dr. Abellán.
