Joan Manuel Serrat Programming Other Music closes Regional Auditorium concert with Miguel Hernández (18/06/2010)

The singer Joan Manuel Serrat was forced to postpone the tour to promote his new album, Child of light and shadow, in which he sings the poet Miguel Hernández, for an operation that removed a small tumor lung.

The action that it had temporarily suspended, will be on Sunday June 20 at 20:30 pm in Room Narciso Yepes del Auditorio Victor Villegas Regional.

On sale the last fifty entries.

Murcia Serrat Son will bring light and shadow, an album of thirteen poems of the immortal poet orioalano.

It has been almost forty years since Serrat published in 1972 'Miguel Hernández', a historical record with some of the best known poems of the late poet and playwright Levantine.

On that occasion he visited the widow, Josefina Manresa, to teach him a recording and see if she gave the permission, and found that the lady had no record player, Joan Manuel bought one for remedying the problem and Josefina not only gave permission, but gave his blessing.

That first album featured versions of poems to music as Less thy womb, Nanas de la cebolla or Elegy, indisputable masterpieces of Spanish poetry, and the new album you can enjoy the Ay ay ay by, the whistle of the dale or Your letters are a wine, compositions that do not lag behind the former.

In both recordings, Serrat, which we consider a poet with a capital, honors not only work but also the memory of a man who died in a bloody and, but for his trusty friend Vicente Aleixandre, had lost largely by the abyss of oblivion.

In addition the project will be completed with a series of video clips that will roll some famous directors such as Isabel Coixet, Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, José Luis Cuerda, Montxo Armendariz ...

Open Letter from Joan Manuel Serrat

The February 23 show my latest album, "Son of light and shadow."

A handful of songs on poems of Miguel Hernández.

An extension of the disc that appeared in 1972 and also a snap.

Thirteen new songs make up this release.

A detailed look at the work of Miguel Hernández ranging from youth poems as "The Levantine palm" to lines of "Son of light and shadow," the deepest and most ambitious of his poems, probably his masterpiece to be read recommend a special way.

Why go back to dig back into the work of Miguel Hernandez ...?

Mainly for two reasons.

One, because this year marks the centenary of the birth of the poet and, as an old friend I am, I felt obliged to celebrate from the stage.

People would ask me.

People love the poet and, like me, would not pass without remembering onomastics.

In principle, the idea just wanted to refresh the old repertoire with a couple of new songs so without great expectations, I went to dive in his poetry but as I returned the old verse new emotions and ideas would materialize in song was my enthusiasm to grow until finally, in view of the goodness of the resulting material, a firm commitment to this work which I now present.

A new delivery of his lines ready to sing.

The other reason that has pushed me back on the work of Mike Hernandez, the most important and convinced me of the interest and validity of the project is the timelessness of his poetry, the validity of his verses beyond the place and time who saw the light, beyond the context in which they were born, verses that still sound as strong and fresh as if they were written yesterday and here.

Has been fundamental to have had great partners to bring the project to fruition.

To all my gratitude, from the captaincy of Joan Albert Amargós in preparing the songs, arrangements and musical direction to the patience and work in the recording Raul Cuevas and Jose Luis Crespo in the mixtures.

They are a sign of the long list of friends and associates who have made this "Son of light and shadow."

I wish that this work helps to inform the public of the poetry of Miguel Hernandez, in my view one of our key contemporary poets, and people, beyond the songs, find the books the poet's soul.

The date of publication of this work is a product of chance but I confess that I do not feel bad coincidence.

At the end of the day, seen from a distance, the February 23, 1981 was the day that the Franco lost his last battle and nothing better than popping to celebrate with you this bunch of songs, with verses from the poet of Orihuela, I prepared in the hope that move you and me.
