[The expansion of the social work unit of Los Martínez del Puerto will improve the social coverage provided to 6,000 people (15/03/2021)

| This unit serves the users of Jerónimo y Avileses, Gea y Truyols, Sucina and Los Martínez del Puerto and their demand has grown by more than 55% in the last four years | The Murcia City Council, through the Department of Social and Family Rights, led by the mayor Pilar Torres, is going to expand the dependencies of the social work unit (UTS) of the district of Los Martínez del Puerto. This unit serves the users of Jerónimo y Avileses, Gea y Truyols, Sucina and Los Martínez del Puerto and its demand has grown by more than 55% in the last four years.

In 2020, it treated 581 cases, while in 2016 it supported 266 people. The district that has attended to the most cases in the last year has been Sucina, with 212, followed by Los Martínez del Puerto, with 144, Jerónimo and Avileses (117) and Gea and Truyols (108). The population served by this social work unit is close to 6,000 people.

In the districts to which it offers coverage, the number of inhabitants has grown by more than 5% in the last three years. Councilor Pilar Torres has visited the premises of this UTS, located on the Ruices de Los Martínez del Puerto road and has indicated that "our objective is to improve the physical space that houses this social work unit so that social workers and users have at their disposal a more friendly, spacious and comfortable environment ". Currently this UTS shares space with a unit of the Decentralization Area.

The Department of Social Rights is going to undertake the necessary reform to expand the social work unit with a new office that is currently part of the Social Center for the Elderly of Los Martínez del Puerto. This action is part of the expansion, reform and improvement plan of the UTS that the City Council has been developing since 2017.

In recent months the social work units of the Barrio del Progreso, San Pío X and Zarandona have been launched.

Previously, those of Llano de Brujas, La Raya and Santa María de Gracia also opened.
