[The Popular Municipal Group demands from the central government aid to face the extraordinary deficit of urban transport concessionaires (26/01/2021)

| The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has participated this morning in the meeting of the FEMP Transport Commission | The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has demanded at the meeting of the Transport Commission of the FEMP, held this morning, that the Government articulate a balanced and fair formula to help the municipalities to face the extraordinary deficit of urban transport concessionaires.

Pérez has indicated that "for months we have been demanding from the central executive essential measures to save the public transport sector that, since the pandemic began, has suffered additional operating deficits as a result of the drastic reduction in income derived from ticket sales, as a result of restrictions on mobility and occupation for health reasons, as well as the added costs of cleaning and disinfection to prevent possible infections ".

The councilor has criticized that "the letter sent by the Minister to the mayors is nothing more than a mere declaration of intent, at this point we do not need design phases but immediate help to the municipalities to continue providing the transport service." Regarding this letter, several of the councilors present at the meeting have expressed their outrage at considering it "a joke since the situation, today, is untenable." Thus, the popular have demanded the Executive of Sánchez e Iglesias that "enough of the hypotheses and specify once and for all the measures that they are going to adopt to face the serious financial consequences that the Covid pandemic has caused in urban transport operators ".

Finally, the mayors and councilors of the PP in the Transport Commission have denounced "the sectarianism of the Government of Sánchez and Iglesias that, while it has abandoned the majority of City Councils by not offering a plan of aid for urban transport concessionaires, has increased the items destined for mobility in Barcelona and Valencia, without explaining what criteria it was based on ".

In the Commission, for the PP, they have participated, in addition to the councilor Rebeca Pérez, Carlos Calvelo, mayor of Arteixo; Natalia Chueca, councilor of the Zaragoza City Council; Luis Menor, Mayor of the City Council of O Pereiro de Aguiar (Ourense); César Díaz, councilor of the Santander City Council; Bernardo Jordano, councilor of the Córdoba City Council; Avelino Barrionuevo, councilor of the Malaga City Council; and Manuel Maza, mayor of the Santibáñez de la Peña (Palencia) City Council.
