[Murcia continues to grow and reaches 459,792 inhabitants (25/01/2021)

| The municipality of Murcia has 6,280 inhabitants more than the previous year, as of January 1, 2020 | The data highlights that the municipality of Murcia has gone from 453,524 inhabitants as of January 1, 2019 to 459,792 inhabitants, as of January 1, 2020, of which 234,598 are women and 225,194 men.

Thus, according to the official register that will be approved by the Plenary on Thursday and that this morning has been approved by the Infrastructure, Finance, Economic Management and General Affairs Commission. In this way, the municipality of Murcia has 6,280 inhabitants more than the previous year, as of January 1, 2020, confirming an upward trend that has caused our municipality to quadruple its population in the last 120 years, going from a population of 111,539 inhabitants in 1900, up to the present day, surpassing the barrier of 400,000 inhabitants in 2005.

The municipal Statistical Services foresee that in five years the barrier of half a million inhabitants will be surpassed.

  "We continue to grow, as shown by the data of the last 20 years, going from 370,000 to about 460,000 inhabitants, consolidating ourselves as the seventh city in Spain.

Data by neighborhoods and districts According to data from the register, in the city of Murcia the population stands at 170,884 inhabitants, adding 1,048 more people compared to the previous year. By neighborhoods, El Carmen is the one with the largest number of people registered with a total of 20,418 inhabitants (gaining 148 more people in a year), followed by Vistalegre with 13,988 and Infante Juan Manuel with 12,825 inhabitants. The group of districts adds a total of 288,908 people, increasing this figure by 5,220 inhabitants. El Palmar continues to be the most populated town with 24,282 inhabitants, which has grown by 390 people, followed by Puente Tocinos with 16,743 inhabitants and Cabezo de Torres with 13,566 inhabitants. The district that has grown the most has been Santiago and Zaraiche, adding 398 more neighbors.  Thus, in relation to the city, the La Purísima - Barriomar neighborhood is the one that has grown the most with 6.03% more population, followed by Santa Catalina with 2.23% and Santiago el Mayor with 1.93% . Continuing with the comparison by districts in the same time interval, Baños and Mendigo would be the town with the highest growth with a rise of 14.08%, followed by La Murta - Carrascoy with 7.53% and Santa Cruz with 5, 37%. Murcia ranks as one of the youngest cities in Spain, along with Ceuta and Melilla, with an average age of its population of 40.36 years, being 39.04 in men and 41.63 years in women.
