[Federico Mayor Zaragoza, Doctor Honoris Causa by the UMU, offers this Thursday the lecture 'Inventing the future' (20/01/2021)

| The presentation, organized by the Forum for Thought and Dialogue of Cieza in collaboration with the University of Murcia , will be presented by Jos� Antonio Lozano Teruel | The Forum for Thought and Dialogue of Cieza, in collaboration with the University of Murcia, organizes this Thursday, January 21, the videoconference 'Inventing the future' by Federico Mayor Zaragoza, which will take place at 8:00 p.m.

through the virtual platform Zoom in open access (https://umurcia.zoom.us/j/98375011328).

The presentation will be presented by Jos� Antonio Lozano Teruel, former rector of the UMU and professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Mayor Zaragoza has alternated throughout most of his life teaching and research activity with politics and management in different international organizations of a cultural and scientific nature.

Between 1963 and 1973 he was a professor for Granada, University of which he became Rector.

Subsequently, he obtained the position of Professor of Biochemistry at the Universidad Aut�noma de Madrid.

In the field of scientific research, he has promoted numerous research projects, and supervised dozens of doctoral theses.

Between 1974 and 1978 he was director of the "Severo Ochoa" Molecular Biology Center of the Higher Council for Scientific Research and, later, scientific president of said organization.

From 1983 to 1987 he held the position of director of the Institute of Human Sciences of Madrid.

In 1987 he was elected Director General of UNESCO, a position he held until 1999.

Over the twelve years he headed UNESCO, he gave new impetus to the Organization's mission by converting it in an institution at the service of peace, tolerance, human rights and peaceful coexistence.

In 1999, he decides not to run for a third term and creates the Foundation for a Culture of Peace, of which he continues to be president,with which the work of promoting the transition of a culture from violence and imposition to a culture of peace and tolerance continues.

In addition to these activities and positions, Mayor Zaragoza is Doctor Honoris Causa by various universities among which is the University of Murcia, which celebrated its investiture in October 1997.
