[Parks and gardens maintain the green cycle by recycling pruning mulch, avoiding waste burning and betting on the Murcia Clean Air strategy (18/01/2021)

| Parks and gardens maintain the 'green cycle' using pruning mulch, which allows the conservation of humidity, the saving of water and the improvement of the floors and visual appearance | The Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration continues working so that "green areas, in addition to perfectly adequate spaces to be enjoyed and used by all residents, are places that respect the â € ˜green cycle 'of nature.

In this way, we take care of the environment and save costs and resources ", reported Jos Guilln. Pruning tasks are performed with a special machine that creates a matter called pruning mulch.

In this way it is achieved that the branches that have been pruned are crushed and serve as an extra element for those green areas. Specifically, the compression process of the pruning remains is carried out by means of a system known as â € ˜mulching ', which consists of crushing creating a mulch, that is, a layer on top of the soil formed by the decomposition of organic matter.

â € ˜Mulching 'prevents evaporation and is distributed as compost on the ground providing nutrients. "The City Council continues to advance in its clean air strategic lines supporting measures that allow raising the environmental quality for the residents of the municipality, achieving a decarbonized city through a significant reduction in polluting emissions.

The works allow the burning of the waste generated by pruning or deposits in landfills to be avoided, and it is also committed to the circular economy ", reported Jos Guilln. Specifically, with this work methodology, numerous advantages are achieved: - Saving water by creating a padded layer that retains moisture, which is an improvement for the space where it is deposited. - A structural improvement of soils by providing them with minerals and nutrients that create what is known as a â € ˜green fertilizer '. - Prevents the growth of weeds by serving as a barrier for germination to reach the soil surface. - Visual improvement of the green areas that are more uniform and aesthetically more pleasant for the citizens who pass near them every day. The work is carried out with a special machine, known as a garden shredder, which in a few seconds allows these pruning remains to be reduced in the substance that will later be used in green areas. Six operators work in these works, which are carried out in all the green areas of the municipality, who ensure that the so-called 'green cycle' of nature is maintained daily.
