[The College of Geologists requests a geotechnical study for the works of the Ronda Oeste de Murcia (13/01/2021)

The College has appealed to the Murcia City Council to include a geotechnical study in the works to install anti-noise screens in the West Round in the El Ranero neighborhood of Murcia.

According to the College, the foundations interact directly with the ground, so the geotechnical study of the ground is "technically necessary and unavoidable." The geotechnical study of the terrain not only results in the safety of the West Round, but also aims to avoid budget increases for the work.

The Illustrious Official College of Geologists (ICOG) has submitted a replacement appeal to the Murcia City Council to incorporate a geological-geotechnical study in the works of the Ronda Oeste de Murcia.

Specifically, the Murcia City Council has put out to tender the works for the "Project for the implementation of the installation of anti-noise screens for the Ronda Oeste in the El Ranero neighborhood", where according to the specifications, the city council details that "no It is necessary to carry out a geological - geotechnical study of the terrain "" The friction of the shaft ensures good behavior on any type of terrain and the distribution of charges is guaranteed evenly ", according to the town hall specifications.

However, the College indicates that the study is "technically necessary and unavoidable for the proper characterization of the terrain." "For the correct dimensioning of the special foundations on which the work will be supported as well as for the identification of other possible collateral geotechnical risks", adds the College.

This geotechnical study prior to the work not only aims to guarantee traffic safety in the West Round, but also aims to avoid "potential budgetary deviations." In its letter to the city council, the College of Geologists recalls that the inclusion of a geotechnical study of the land on which the work is to be carried out is mandatory in accordance with the Public Sector Contract Law (Article 233.3 LCSP), provided it is not incompatible with the nature of said work, as is the case in this specific case.

Illustrious Official College of Geologists (ICOG) The ICOG is a Public Law Corporation created for the defense and support of the interests of Geologists according to Law 73/1978 of December 26.

Among its essential purposes, the organization of the activity or exercise of the profession of Geologist and the exclusive representation and defense of its interests stand out.

Headquartered in Madrid, the College has delegations in Aragon, Galicia, Asturias, Catalonia and the Basque Country.
