[Murcia deposited 16% more special waste last year than in 2019 (08/01/2021)

| Batteries, batteries, cardboard, scrap metal, debris and vegetable oil have been the waste that has suffered the greatest increase in dep Site | The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca P rez, has visited this morning the facilities of the Murcia Ecopark, located in the Pol gono Oeste in San Gin s, where she has made a balance of the collected in the Ecoparque and Ecopuntos mobile phones for the year 2020, where the data clearly indicate an increase in the waste provided in both facilities. Thus, during 2015, 264,411 kilos of special waste were collected; in 2016, they were 334,593 kilos; in 2017, 453,000, 82 kilos; in 2018, 585,793 kilos, and in 2019, it was 716,741 kilos. Already closed the balance of 2020, the total of special household waste in both facilities adds up to 836,586 kilos. Citizen awareness has achieved that the special waste that is collected has increased by 16.7% in 2020 compared to last 2019. Waste that increases in its correct deposit The batteries continue the ascending line marked in recent years: in 2014, 9,356 kilos were collected; In 2019, 14,931 kilos and 2020 closed with a balance of 15,622 kilos of batteries. Also the widely used batteries have increased, from 11,019 in 2019, to 12,671 kilos in 2020. Used vegetable oil is also a domestic waste that year after year shows the highest degree of public awareness.

And is that this year 2020, 59,770 liters of oil have been collected compared to 54,550 in 2019. Some special waste has undergone a huge increase during this final year, such as cardboard, which once taken to the Ecopark, is deposited in the compactor enabled in this facility.

In 2020, 18,120 kilos of this waste were deposited in the eco-park, while in 2019 they were 6,180 kg. Scrap metal also suffers a large increase, going from 23,300 kilos in 2019 to 51,100 kilos in 2020. As for the rubble, 108,490 kilos have been delivered to the Ecopark in the past years, this figure in 2019 being 73,080 kilos.

The councilor has indicated that "avoiding debris in natural environments is essential in caring for and respecting the environment" Waste electrical and electronic equipment The Murcia Ecopark also disposes of WEEE waste, which due to its composition, cannot be thrown away with the common garbage or in the separate collection containers.

Based on their classification according to current legislation, they are arranged in the Ecopark in clearly differentiated and visibly identified places: - Temperature exchange devices (Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidification equipment, heat pumps, oil radiators and other devices that use fluids other than water): In 2019: 16,080 kilos.

In 2020: 13,162.

This 2020 the deposit in the delivery of air conditioners and heat pumps decreased, but the collection of refrigerators and freezers increased. - Monitors and screens: Screens, televisions, monitors, laptops: Year 2019: 55,559 kilos.

Year 2020: 58,341 kilos.

There is also a rise in the deposit of monitors and screens of computer equipment. - Straight fluorescent lamps, compact fluorescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, and LED lamps: Year 2019: 5,796.2 kilos.

Year 2020: 3,767 kilos.

This decrease is due to the fact that the new range of lamps has a higher performance and therefore longer duration, as in many establishments where new luminaires are purchased, there are special containers for the differentiated collection of this type of waste. - Large appliances (washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, kitchens, electric stoves and ovens, electric stoves, electric hot plates, lighting fixtures; sound or image reproducing devices, music equipment ).

Year 2019: 56,960 kilos.

In 2020: 53,840 kilos.

This drop is attributed to two factors: On the one hand, when acquiring a new appliance, the establishment withdraws the used one, taking charge of the waste removed by its authorized managers, and on the other, the citizenship increasingly Awareness extends the life and repairs these appliances. - Small appliances (Vacuum cleaners, sewing machines, microwave ovens, ventilation devices, irons, toasters, electric knives, kettles, clocks, electric razors, scales, appliances for the hair care, calculators, radios, video cameras, video recorders, hi-fi channels, sound or image reproducers, electrical and electronic toys) Year 2019 : 86,992 kilos.

Year 2020: 54,784 kilos. - Computer and telecommunications devices (mobile phones, GPS, pocket calculators, personal computers, printers, telephones, and printer cartridges).

Year 2019: 37,594 kilos.

Year 2020: 33,257 kilos. The deposit of these RAEES in the Ecopark is very important, so that the appropriate treatment can be applied later by authorized managers since it contains substances that are harmful to the environment. Why should we use the eco-park? Depositing special waste in the Ecopark helps contribute to the care and sustainability of the environment. In this way, the materials contained in the waste that are susceptible to direct recycling are used, thereby achieving energy and raw material savings, and reducing the volume of waste to be eliminated. In addition, the uncontrolled dumping of bulky waste that cannot be disposed of through conventional garbage collection services is avoided, thus eliminating the dumping of rubble and others in the natural and urban environment. In this way, the best solution is found for each type of waste in order to achieve the maximum value of the materials and the minimum cost in global management. Once decontaminated by companies in the sector, the resulting materials will have a second life thanks to the secondary raw materials obtained that will allow them to be used again such as aluminum, copper, iron, nickel, or even gold, silver and platinum, which are part of computer and telephone cards. In the Ecopark everything collected is stored properly, respecting all current legal and environmental regulations.

The facility does not generate odors or present risks of toxicity or danger, since the waste is controlled in suitable places.
