[The Plaza Pintor Mariano Ballester will be renovated following the contributions of the residents of El Carmen within Conexi n Sur (30/12/2020)

The project, which is coordinated by the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration led by Jos Guill n, contemplates the improvement of pedestrian mobility, the creation of a new children's space adapted for children with special needs and increased vegetation The Governing Board has approved the project and specifications for the contracting of the improvement and specialization works of the Plaza Pintor Mariano Ballester, in the environment of the strategic project South Connection that is developed in the Carmen neighborhood. This action, which is coordinated by the Department of Urban Development and Modernization led by Jos Guill n, seeks to improve pedestrian mobility, increase vegetation and create a children's play area adapted for children with special needs. In this way, it responds to the demands of citizens arising from the ADN Urbano participation process, who requested greater usability of the square, the improvement of accessibility, stay and pedestrian mobility, vegetables, shading, stay and paved. To do this, a pedestrian corridor will be created that connects Torre de Romo street with Clementes street on the north side of the square, and children's games will be concentrated in a single strip, which will also be improved and adapted to children with special needs. Likewise, the flowerbeds will be redesigned to improve their geometry and house shrub species, and two fountains will be installed, one of them ornamental, following the strategy of the Murcia City Council to turn water into the central axis of parks and gardens. Another of the actions included in the project is the improvement of the living areas with new specific designs that will allow the neighbors to enjoy around the existing trees. The entire children's play area will be installed on rubber and will be delimited with a treated pine wood curb.

The square will have two meadows with different shrub species. This performance, like the one carried out in the Pintor Pedro Flores garden that was inaugurated last December 23, is aimed primarily at the 20,500 residents of the El Carmen neighborhood. The City Council will invest in these works and which are now being put out to tender and which will be executed within a period of four months from their award, a maximum of 148,830 euros. Urban DNA El Carmen The City Council thus continues to develop the Urban DNA Neighborhood Regeneration Plan, a pioneering intervention model aimed at improving the quality of life of families in the urban area, neighborhoods and districts, which includes the proposals of the neighbors and different groups to carry out improvement actions. Thanks to the Barrio del Carmen project, we actively work with the residents to contribute the multicultural value of this area, reactivate buildings and emblematic areas, and modernize the neighborhood so that it regains its historical weight in the city of Murcia. In this way, the renovation and social activation of the neighborhood is sought, creating a common point where public resources can be brought closer to the service of the real needs of neighbors and merchants. The Carmen neighborhood framed in South Connection The South Connection project will mean the return to Murcia of an urban area of ??more than 200,000 m2, where green spaces and pedestrian areas will be the main protagonists. In the design of the actions to be carried out, the more than 70,000 residents who live in the 9 districts and neighborhoods where these actions will take place will have a voice, such as: Los Dolores, El Infante, el barrio del Carmen, Santiago el Mayor, the Progreso neighborhood, San P o X, Nonduermas, Patiño and Barriomar. Currently, the participatory process of the project is taking place.

Municipal technicians are holding work meetings with more than 150 representative groups from the southern part of the municipality with the aim of gathering ideas and proposals that will later be evaluated by the competent technicians. At the same time, the placement of more than 300 participation ballot boxes by businesses and establishments in the southern districts and neighborhoods is allowing weekly contributions to be collected directly from citizens by filling in the form.
