[Huermur denounces the abandonment of the medieval towers of Fuensanta (28/12/2020)

Huermur denounces the very poor state of conservation of the two medieval towers located in the area of ??the Sanctuary of Fuensanta de Murcia.

Some Islamic buildings dating from approximately the 12th century, almost unknown. The conservation group criticizes the lack of interest of the Ministry of Culture for its proper maintenance, protection and establishment of its protection as an Asset of Cultural Interest BIC, which has been in a drawer since 2018. Huermur emphasizes that the area is increasingly degraded, and immediate measures are needed to enhance the value of this heritage, as mandated by the Law of Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia.

For which a complaint will be filed, so that said regulations are complied with. The Association for the Conservation of the Huerta and Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) denounces the poor condition and neglect of the two medieval towers located in the area of ??the Sanctuary of La Fuensanta in Murcia.

These two buildings, which date from approximately the 12th century, have a defensive character as they are built with solid mortar walls, and are located very close to the religious complex, but for many visitors they have gone unnoticed for years. The first tower is located next to the Carmelite convent and dominates the accesses and ascents to the sanctuary, as well as a large part of the valley and the orchard.

The second building is located next to the parking area, to the southwest.

Both have considerable dimensions ranging from seven to thirteen meters on each side. Huermur criticizes the lack of interest of the Ministry of Culture for its proper maintenance, protection and conservation.

In 2018, the conservation entity requested the establishment of the due protection environment for this heritage, since according to the generic provision of 1949 that protects all the castles in Spain as well as the current Cultural Heritage Law , these medieval buildings are generally granted the status of Asset of Cultural Interest BIC, and therefore, they must have a cultural protection environment of the same rank and an express declaration updated to current regulations.

As of today, the Ministry has not issued an express resolution on this request for BIC protection made in 2018, so Huermur has also urged that it be immediately resolved without further ado.

s procrastination. The group emphasizes that the degradation of this heritage is increasingly accentuated, so immediate measures are needed to enhance its value and conservation.

In this sense, Huermur has filed a complaint with the General Directorate of Cultural Assets urging scrupulous compliance with the Law of Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia, and that this heritage be duly restored and valued.

For the conservation group, each day that passes without having this unique heritage in proper conditions is a lost opportunity to generate wealth and tourism. Finally, the president of Huermur, Sergio Pacheco, added that: "We hope that the Ministry of Culture will respond to requests and ensure the effective protection of this historical and cultural heritage of our land, which helps to understand the importance of this area of ??Murcia, and from where the entire garden is dominated.

It is not acceptable, nor morally acceptable, that this part of our history is so abandoned and the administration does not lift a finger ".
