[ Aguas de Murcia Solidaria will provide supplies to the more than 48,000 inhabitants of the Kabila neighborhood of the Congo (23/12/2020)

| Jos Ballesta presents this award worth 12,000 euros to the Mainel Foundation for a project that allows ensure sustainable water supply in the urban neighborhood of Kabila | The mayor of Murcia, Jos Ballesta, together with the councilor for Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro Corch n, the councilor for the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui P rez, and the managing director of Aguas de Murcia , Rafael G mez, today presented the 'Aguas de Murcia Solidaria' award, which in its 11th edition has awarded the Mainel Foundation project aimed at 'Guaranteeing the sustainable supply of water in the urban neighborhood of Kabila, in Kolwezi (Republic of Congo) .

The event was also attended by the project assessment technician, Jorge S nchez, and the Mainel Foundation Delegate in Murcia, Mar a del Mar Merlos. "Endowed with 12,000 euros, this contest aims to guarantee the availability and sanitation of water in developing countries", highlighted the mayor Jos Ballesta, who added that "Murcia contributes to the reduction of the poverty through the installation of hydraulic infrastructures that facilitate the supply of drinking water and sanitation in those towns where they need it most, thus improving the quality of life of its inhabitants ”. A well powered by solar energy The Kabila neighborhood, on the outskirts of Kolwezi (Luilu) has no water (neither potable nor non-potable) nor electricity.

A total of 48,807 people live in it without access to basic services, such as access to drinking water and sanitation or electricity.

This lack of water, especially drinking water, is the source of numerous diseases such as diarrhea, typhoid fever, ringworm and malaria (due to the accumulation of water in bad conditions). The well will make it possible to have potable water, improving the health levels of the population and in this way contribute to the reduction of poverty. The project aims to guarantee the sustainable supply of drinking water in the Kabila neighborhood.

For which the construction of a well (professional excavation) with a water tank and an extraction system powered by photovoltaic (solar) energy is proposed. Projects in Mauritania, Tanzania, Colombia, El Salvador, Cameroon, Haiti, Algeria and Uganda Aguas de Murcia assumes as its own the commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically number 6, "to guarantee the availability of water and its sustainable management and sanitation for all". Since the first edition in 2009, projects have been carried out in countries such as Mauritania, Tanzania, Colombia, El Salvador, Cameroon, Haiti, Algeria and Uganda with a total donation of more than 126,000 euros. Thanks to this contest in previous editions, it has managed to start the following projects: • In 2009, "Improvement of the conditions of access to Water for 2,900 people (1,660 women and 1,240 men) from the town of Ni vrare, in the BoerToress commune, Wilaya de Trarza, Mauritania" by the Cooperative Assembly for peace. • In 2010 the winner was Ingenier a Sin Fronteras, with the project “Same District Hydrosanitary Program: Reinforcing the sustainability of water and sanitation services in the communities of Njora, Vumari and Ishinde, Tanzania” • 2011, the winner was for the second time, the Peace Cooperation Assembly with the project “Improving the food security of the inhabitants of the Djonaba commune, in the MaghtaLahjar province, Brankna region, Mauritania”, benefiting 2,521 people directly and 12,562 indirectly. • In 2012, Solidaridad Internacional, with its project “Improving the quality of life of Afro-Colombian communities affected by the armed conflict in the department of Cauca, Colombia”, was chosen as the winner of the fourth edition. • In 2013 Alianza por la Solidaridad won the award for the project “Access to water for the inhabitants of the Las Casitas village of El Salvador”. • 2014 the project presented by FADE won the 6th edition and is making it possible to bring drinking water to the rural populations of Mbleoa and Ayene, in Cameroon. • 2015 - The 7th edition was for the Humanism and Democracy Foundation, which worked to improve access to drinking water in the Los Paleos community, in the Les Cacaos municipality of Haiti.

This project has guaranteed the right to drinking water to 95 families and approximately 750 people from the Los Paleos community. • 2016 - Winner of the 8th edition of the “Aguas de Murcia Solidaria” Contest .

FIREFIGHTERS IN ACTION with the project “Installation of water tanks and construction of latrines” (Sahrawi refugee camps) “Tindouf”.

The direct beneficiaries were about 900 inhabitants. • 2017 - Rafiki Africa with its project “Comprehensive development of a depressed rural area in Uganda”, where several individual storm tanks and wells were built for the collection of rainwater. • 2018 - In the last edition, the FADE Foundation was the winner and a drinking water well has already been built in the town of Nsimalen in Cameroon.
