[The City Council and C ritas have assisted 20,000 people since the beginning of the pandemic and implemented actions to support the most vulnerable groups worth 1.8 million euros (22/12/2020)

These data were released this morning by the Councilor for Social Rights and Family, Pilar Torres, during the visit she made to the facilities of the commissary that C ritas has active in the Barrio del Carmen de Murcia, from where she attends more than 1,300 families daily thanks to the work of 52 volunteers.

The beneficiaries are citizens of the southern neighborhoods of Murcia, such as El Carmen, Barriomar, Buenos Aires, San P o X and Santiago el Mayor. Some foods provided have been rice, pasta, tuna, legumes, juices and cookies, among others. The Councilor for Social Rights, Pilar Torres, pointed out that "in my department we only talk about people and the most vulnerable represent a real priority for this Government Team.

To design the most effective social care and close, we rely on social entities, with which we work side by side to maintain projects like this commissary, which supports more than 1,300 Murcian families.

C ritas serves families referred by the municipal Social Services, who carry out continuous and exhaustive monitoring of the most vulnerable groups, which are those that require greater social support. The coordination maintained since the beginning of the pandemic by the social technicians of the City Council and C ritas has made it possible to reinforce the care provided from the 60 support points that this social entity has distributed throughout the municipality of Murcia . The Department of Social Rights and Family this year has provided funding of 475,000 euros to support the social plan developed by C ritas to support the neediest groups. The City Council has contributed 225,000 euros for the development of the set of actions to combat poverty and social exclusion in the municipality of Murcia that C ritas develops.

The beneficiaries are people living in poverty and social exclusion residing in the city of Murcia. Common work of Social Services and C ritas The Social Services of the Consistory and C ritas coordinate the coverage of basic needs to the most vulnerable population of Murcia, some groups with serious problems of social exclusion, a situation that has been particularly aggravated as consequence of the social crisis derived from the pandemic caused by Covid 19. Involvement of the Red Cross and the Food Bank The Red Cross and the Segura Food Bank also participated decisively in this project, to which the City Council also approved grants worth 250,000 euros for each.

The food delivery service that was established serves more than 2,000 people, of which more than 600 are minors. Among the joint actions carried out by the City Council and C ritas to face the social emergency caused by the pandemic is the creation of a specific fund of aid in kind for vulnerable families, the implementation of programs care for children in a situation of social exclusion, the management of direct financial aid and an information and guidance service for vulnerable people on benefits, aid and social resources of the administrations and C ritas through a call center.
