[The City Council and Jes s Abandonado develop the 'Housing First' project, which favors the social rehabilitation of homeless people (21/12/2020)

| The Department of Social Rights finances this line of intervention with 54,500 euros, which provides sheltered flats for people with a history of life on the street of more than 5 years | The Murcia City Council, through the Department of Social and Family Rights, led by the mayor Pilar Torres, and the Jesús Abandonado Foundation develop the project called 'Housing First', which favors the social rehabilitation of people homeless. The Murcian Consistory finances this line of social intervention with 54,500 euros, which provides sheltered flats for people with a history of life on the street of more than 5 years. The mayor Pilar Torres has visited this morning one of the houses that are part of this project and which is located in the district of Patiño.

'Housing First' is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, whose first mandate is to end poverty in all its forms and dimensions. The beneficiaries of this program are people with a long history of living on the streets who have difficulties in being linked to the care centers for the homeless, with problems derived from addictions, health difficulties (mental or organic) and with a prognosis of discharges difficulties of labor insertion. Pilar Torres has pointed out that "the care and support of vulnerable people are an inalienable priority for the Government Team and this project represents a tangible example of the services we offer from the hand of social entities, which carry out a commendable work that it is worthy of gratitude.

They will always have us by their side to support social initiatives that help the most vulnerable groups.

" Individualized accompaniment in the field The intervention methodology is based on individualized and personal accompaniment to the beneficiaries in the territory.

This means that the person receives care at home or in public space, not in a professional office. The intervention team of this project accompanies the beneficiary in whatever he may need at the level of guidance, advice and other needs. The only requirements that are demanded of the users of the houses are good neighborhood and community coexistence, being able to take charge of the payment or co-payment of the house and keep it in condition, and finally accept the visits of the professionals to the tutored apartment. Example that leaving the street is possible The indirect beneficiaries of 'Housing First' are all the people who form the group of homeless people in Murcia, since this intervention model shows that getting off the street is possible and there is hope for them.

Society in general is also considered an indirect beneficiary, since this model makes it possible to make the homeless community visible, in the face of the occult in which they have lived for years.

This fosters greater awareness and sensitization towards the most vulnerable people. This project has been developed in Murcia since 2018 and shows success rates of over 80%.  function { ;(, , {});}
