The City Council maintains the 'green cycle' using pruning mulch in the parks and gardens of the municipality (10/12/2020)

| The parks and gardens maintain the 'green cycle' using pruning mulch, which allows the conservation of humidity, saving water and improving floors and visual appearance | The Department of Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development led by José Guillén has carried out the pruning of more than 20,000 mulberry trees and 15,000 orange trees located throughout the municipality.

One of his last performances has been in the Federation of Peñas Huertanas where 68 mulberry trees have been pruned. In addition to these works, the Murcia City Council is committed to creating a sustainable green cycle to take care of the environment and the health of the neighbors. The remnants of pruning branches are crushed to be reused as compost in the parks and gardens of the municipality.Pruning tasks are performed with a special machine that creates a matter called pruning mulch.

In this way it is achieved that the branches that have been pruned are crushed and serve as an extra element for those green areas.Specifically, the compression process of pruning remains is carried out by means of a system known as 'mulching', which consists of crushing creating a mulch, that is, a layer on top of the soil formed by decomposition of organic matter.

The 'mulching' prevents evaporation and is distributed as compost on the ground providing nutrients."The City Council continues to advance in its strategic lines of clean air supporting measures that allow to raise the environmental quality for the residents of the municipality, achieving a decarbonized city through a significant reduction in polluting emissions.

These works allow the burning of the waste generated by pruning or deposits in landfills and is also committed to the circular economy "has reported José Guillén.Specifically, with this work methodology, numerous advantages are achieved:- Water saving by creating a padded layer that retains moisture, which is an improvement for the space where it is deposited.- A structural improvement of the soils by providing them with minerals and nutrients that create what is known as a 'green manure'.- Prevents the growth of weeds by serving as a barrier for germination to reach the soil surface.- Visual improvement of the green areas that are more uniform and aesthetically pleasing for the citizens who pass near them every day.The work is carried out with a special machine, known as a garden shredder, which allows in a few seconds to reduce these pruning remains in the substance that will later be used in the green areas.Pruning of 20,000 mulberry trees located throughout the municipalityFor these works there are 6 teams that arrive in an efficient and coordinated way to all areas.

They will be carrying out these tasks until the beginning of December."The objective of this pruning is, in addition to revitalizing the tree and helping it in its development, guaranteeing the safety of citizens and making these specimens so characteristic of our city look in perfect condition and provide shade in the gardens and green areas of the municipality , places where neighbors can rest, meet, disconnect and enjoy our surroundings "has highlighted José Guillén.The first of the actions that is being carried out is the plywood of the lineups of specimens on walks.

This task is necessary to guarantee the safety of the neighbors, avoiding the fall of fruits, as well as reducing the fall of leaves in autumn that cause discomfort to pedestrians and prevent some of the branches from entering the balconies, patios or roofs of households. The fruitless mulberry trees in the gardens are not pruned, they are pruned for formation to avoid the fall of dangerous branches.

This type of pruning also allows the tree to develop and grow properly. These mulberry trees allow a great environmental benefit and form a natural canopy in parks and gardens that allows offering shadows to all neighbors who can enjoy them at any time of the year.To carry out the work, supervised by municipal technical engineers, all mandatory safety measures are complied with, including harnesses, helmets and various elements established by current regulations.

The marking of the areas where work is being carried out is also carried out to avoid any problems.
