The City Council enables an additional line of 1 million euros to grant aid to needy families and pay for 24 social care projects (04/12/2020)

This action is part of the social project developed by the Government Team since the beginning of the pandemic and which has allowed Social Services to take care of 52,000 people this year, 12,000 more than those who received assistance in all of 2019The Murcia City Council is going to allocate an additional line of 1 million euros to grant aid to needy families and fund social care projects.

The Municipal Corporation has supported this morning the transfer of credit for that amount to be managed by the Municipal Social Services.The measure has been specified during the celebration of the extraordinary session of the Municipal Plenary that took place today and is part of the social project developed by the Government Team since the beginning of the pandemic and which has allowed Social Services to take care of this 52,000 people a year, 12,000 more than those who received assistance in all of 2019.The demand for Social Services grows by 30%This 30% increase in users who attend Social Services has motivated the adoption of extraordinary measures by the Government Team, such as the fund of 1 million euros approved today.The Councilor for Social Rights and Family, Pilar Torres, has pointed out that "people are at the center of all our actions and measures such as the one we have approved today seek to provide care and support to those most in need, who are those who put a face and identity to the socio-health crisis that we are going through and in the face of which we will continue to develop and apply measures to alleviate its effects ".The million euros enabled will make it possible to pay for 24 social care projects promoted by third sector entities and that seek to provide the most needy groups with tools to face the complicated social situation derived from the pandemic.Promote social inclusionWithin the subsidized programs, there are lines of action aimed at promoting the social inclusion of vulnerable people, caring for minors from needy families, promoting volunteer programs and developing actions to support homeless people.Regarding the aid, they will be addressed to vulnerable families in the municipality, who will receive financial support to purchase basic necessities such as food, cleaning and personal hygiene or to pay bills for basic services such as electricity, water and heating.The City Council has processed more than 5,000 aid and committed payments worth more than 5 million to alleviate the effects of the pandemic among the neediest families in the municipality.4.3 million extraordinary allocated since AprilThe funds approved today are in line with others previously authorized, such as the 800,000 euros that were approved on November 13 to meet the first needs of a thousand families.In addition, the Governing Board approved another 500,000 euros on April 17 for the same purpose.

Similarly, the City Council gave the green light to an extraordinary financing line of 1 million euros on September 11 for the same task.

Likewise, with the first consequences of the pandemic, a contingency fund of 1 million euros was approved.The City Council plans to approve more aid of this type in the future if the effects generated by the socio-health crisis caused by the expansion of Covid-19 do not subside.Food delivery serviceThe Department of Social Rights also continues with the work of coordination with social entities that allows the maintenance of a food distribution service that covers the entire territory of the municipality of Murcia and that pays attention to more than 2,000 people, from those with more than 600 are smaller.
