The tribute to the Huertana Woman by José Hernández, an obligatory stop on the Vía Verde as it passes through Los Ramos (03/12/2020)

| José Ballesta discovers the sculpture by the Murcian artist José Hernández, a huertana who wears a medal in honor of the Virgen de la Huerta , patron of the district | The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, discovered this morning the sculpture 'Homenaje a la Mujer Huertana', a work by the Murcian artist José Hernández and which has been installed in the garden from the Vereda de Chocolate, in the district of Los Ramos, as it passes through the Vía Verde."This monument by José Hernández reflects his love for the land of Murcia and makes a nod to the Patron Saint of Los Ramos, the Virgen de la Huerta, with a unique model created for this occasion," said José Ballesta during the event, who added that “the garden of the Vereda de Chocolate is found on the Vía Verde, the 8.5 km healthy route that connects the southern districts on foot and by bicycle, which has allowed the incorporation of 200,000 m2 of spaces of high landscape value, connecting the Huerta and the districts of the Costera Sur with the city of Murcia ”.Specifically, the figure in the new sculpture –which is made of bronze and measures 1.75 meters in height–, wears a typical huertana costume, holds a jug and wears a medal with the image of the Virgen de la Huerta, patron saint from Los Ramos.1,000 m2 with the acequias and the Huerta as protagonistsThe garden of the Vereda de Chocolate was inaugurated last March, becoming an oasis in the heart of the Vía Verde inspired by the Murcian Huerta of more than 1,000 square meters, with palm trees, orange, vanilla, bluebell and lavender.

In addition, the action allowed to value the old ditch that passed through said environment.In this sense, the mayor pointed out that “the canalization elements that the Arabs built around the Segura Valley constitute the most prodigious hydraulic engineering project that exists, with more than a thousand years old and still working today throughout the Huerta of Murcia".Among its elements also highlights its large entrance arch in honor of the Virgen de la Huerta, at the initiative of the Municipal Board, which was also designed by the Murcian sculptor José Hernández.Palm grove oasis with different shrub speciesLikewise, the garden has the simulation of an oasis in the shape of a palm grove adorned with vegetation, trees and shrub species, such as 'Phoenix dactylifera' palm trees, orange, vanilla, bluebell or lavender.The park also features a play area with slides and educational and recreational elements with animal motifs.

In addition, it has a security fence, shock absorbing floor and multiple benches for rest.This Murcia City Council project was framed within the Extraordinary Investment Plan in Pedanías, endowed with 14 million euros.
