The participation process of South Connection becomes the broadest and most exhaustive in the history of the City Council (02/12/2020)

| It is still in its gestation phase, however, it already has more than 600 contributions from 150 neighborhood groups and professionals, and counts more than 350 individual surveys | It is still in its gestation phase –the conceptualization of the project-, however, South Connection has already become the initiative with the greatest participation in the history of the municipality of Murcia, “a process that we started just a few weeks ago and that it already has more than 600 contributions from 150 neighborhood and professional groups, and counts about 350 individual surveys ”, reported this morning the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta.Within these participation processes, the Artillery Barracks today hosted the first National Forum of Experts 'South Connection', in which some of the most influential professionals in the field of Architecture and urban regeneration gathered at the national and international level , promoters of radical transformation projects that have forever changed the direction of large cities such as Madrid or Bilbao.During his speech at the opening of the forum, organized by the COAMU, José Ballesta stressed that “promoting civic collaboration generates a feeling of belonging from the public and for this we must avoid the accommodative advantage of listening only to the closest or friendly contributions, but pay special attention to those critical or opposing voices, made since independence and alien to undesirable sectarianisms, because we are convinced that diverse opinions enrich public debate and, therefore, we are going to continue with what we believe should be our work: to reconcile positions, to agglutinate consensus, to bring together different realities that provide the greatest social support to this transformation process that is going to be the most important in the history of Murcia at this turn of the century ”.Then, the councilor stated that "along with the debate, reflection is also essential, that is, the integration of the different proposals, their connection with the city and the evaluation of their material and technical viability." In this sense, he valued "the technical solvency and integrating vision of the city" of the technical team of the Murcia City Council, coordinated by the architect Jesús López and made up of professionals of different profiles and a solid track record."At this decisive juncture in human history," added the mayor, "rethinking the way we plan, build and manage our urban spaces is not an option, it is an imperative.

Our work to achieve that ideal begins now.

Let's all keep thinking about the city together, let's keep turning obstacles into horizons ”.The meeting was also attended by the Councilor for Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, the mayor of Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé Pérez, and the president of the Official College of Architects of Murcia (COAMUR), María José Peñalver.
