The City Council continues the Plan to improve the accessibility of South Connection by renovating sidewalks in the Progreso neighborhood (30/11/2020)

| The improvement of pedestrian spaces and the connection between neighborhoods is a demand that residents have raised in meetings and agoras of the South Connection process of participation | The councilor for Barrios and Pedanías, Marco Antonio Fernández, visited the Progreso neighborhood this morning, where the Plan to improve the accessibility of the South Connection neighborhoods is being carried out.

It is a project to improve sidewalks and pedestrian connections, within the Extraordinary Investment and District Plan.During this visit, a route has been carried out with various groups and neighborhood associations, in which project technicians have explained to the residents the actions that are going to be carried out.Specifically, the section of sidewalk that is built on Juan Pablo II avenue will be replaced, before reaching the insertion with the Los Frutos lane, and that runs over the Alguazas canal.This ditch, which runs superficially, has a section on the opposite slope that makes it difficult to maintain, so a new section with a slope will be built to facilitate the flow of water and later the new sidewalk will be paved."South Connection is a project that unites spaces, connects people and that will facilitate the development of the neighborhoods themselves.

 The paving will consist of two sections of sidewalk that will be replaced: the section of ditch that runs along the cobblestone sidewalk and the section of currently concreted sidewalk that will be affected by the action.In addition, the existing retaining wall will be re-built up to the level of the sidewalk, and a metal railing will be installed on the section of sidewalk executed, thus improving the safety of the neighbors.With this intervention, the rules regarding basic accessibility conditions are met, since the solution adopted requires the execution of fords, in addition to complying with the maximum admissible slopes at all times.The corresponding pedestrian crossing and horizontal signage that is affected such as solid lines and hard shoulder will also be painted.Barriomar, territory of South ConnectionThe South Connection project will mean the return to Murcians of an urban area of ??more than 200,000 m2, where green spaces and pedestrian areas will be the main protagonists.In the design of the actions to be developed, the more than 70,000 residents who live in the 9 districts and neighborhoods where these actions will take place will have a voice, such as: Los Dolores, El Infante, the Carmen neighborhood, Santiago el Mayor, the Progreso neighborhood, San Pío X, Nonduermas, Patiño and Barriomar.Currently, the participatory process of the project is taking place.

Municipal technicians are holding working meetings with more than 150 representative groups from the southern part of the municipality with the aim of gathering ideas and proposals that will later be evaluated by the competent technicians.At the same time, the placement of more than 300 ballot boxes by businesses and establishments in the southern districts and neighborhoods is allowing the contributions that citizens send directly by filling in forms to be collected weekly.
