The drafting of the projects for the metropolitan parks of Barriomar-Conexion Sur and La Fica, within Murcia Río begins (27/11/2020)

The Governing Board entrusts the municipal urban development company with the basic and execution projects of two metropolitan parks, one in Barriomar - South Connection, West Park and the other in La Fica, East Park, which will become the two most important green lungs from the cityThe Governing Board approved today the management order to the municipal development company, the drafting of four basic projects and execution within the Murcia Río and South Connection projects. In this way, the Murcia City Council has planned the execution of two new green lungs, one in Barriomar - South Connection, West Park and another in La Fica, East Park, the adaptation of the surface over the Artillery Barracks car park and its environment and construction projects to improve the new accesses to the river motes. On the one hand, the East Park will become a large green area; environment that will serve as a transition between the city and the Huerta. On the other hand, the West Park - South Connection will be a great green environment near Barriomar and will combine wooded areas with leisure, sports and leisure areas.Another project is the adaptation of the surface above the Artillery Barracks car park and its surroundings. These two projects are in the area of ??influence of South Connection that will territorially structure the municipality.

With this action we unite spaces, connect people and facilitate the development of neighborhoods and districts themselves, making them more open, promoting social integration and favoring economic activity. The new accesses to the river buttes, both on the left and on the right, will also be improved by means of stairs, increasing the width of the sections, reducing the number of steps per section and creating new intermediate plateaus, as well as the inclusion of recreational elements to make access to the river more attractive to families. These stairs, complying with current regulations and taking into account the number of people who ride their bikes through the motes, will be adapted to raise or lower bicycles. The expenditure is authorized for the drafting of basic and execution projects totaling 291,315 euros. The Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration led by José Guillén, in collaboration with the rest of the City Council departments, continues to develop the Murcia Río project, which will extend along 27 km of riverbed, covering 14 districts, from the Contraparada to Alquerías and El Raal, and will mean the creation of new leisure, sports and cultural areas throughout its journey, the implementation of different projects for the recovery of natural space, landscape and biodiversity with the river as the backbone.Murcia Río is already a realityThe 'Murcia Río' project is already a reality and in its first phase an extension of more than 50,000m2 of green areas and naturalized spaces has already been opened to Murcia, recreating the Huerta and recovering the riverside vegetation.

This is the greatest environmental transformation of the last decade, becoming the largest river park and leisure park in the municipality. The 'Murcia Río' social and environmental recovery project is made up of the Alameda del Malecón, to which must be added the Alameda de las Cuatro Piedras also open, the bike path of the mota del río, the intelligent lighting of the riverbed installed in its entire urban section; as well as the actions on the right and left banks of the river, the River Walk, the Teniente Flomesta project and the La Contraparada Visitor Center.8,200 m2 for relaxation and neighborhood meeting with river viewsThe City Council is completing the Teniente Flomesta garden, which is being completely renovated and where all architectural barriers are being eliminated, making a new walking area by the river available to families. The Teniente Flomesta garden will open in the coming weeks as an extension of Murcia Río, a green area of ??8,200 square meters that adds to other healthy environments in the municipality, such as the Vía Verde or the new pedestrian axes of the Murcia Peatonal Plan. The metropolitan parks will be located in the territory of South ConnectionThe South Connection project will mean the return to Murcians of an urban area of ??more than 200,000 m2, where green spaces and pedestrian areas will be the main protagonists. In the design of the actions to be developed, the more than 70,000 residents who live in the 9 districts and neighborhoods where these actions will take place will have a voice, such as: Los Dolores, El Infante, the Carmen neighborhood, Santiago el Mayor, the Progreso neighborhood, San Pío X, Nonduermas, Patiño and Barriomar.Currently, the participatory process of the project is taking place.

Municipal technicians are holding working meetings with more than 150 representative groups from the southern part of the municipality in order to gather ideas and proposals that will later be evaluated by the competent technicians. At the same time, the placement of more than 300 ballot boxes by businesses and establishments in the southern districts and neighborhoods is allowing the contributions that citizens send directly by filling in forms to be collected weekly.
